He was ill with a cough and cold so had to delay the videotaping of the sermon. It will be available as an online link, which also provides the opportunity to download the file if it will be presented in a place without an internet connection. A printed copy will be made available where a video sermon is not possible, for someone to read in you congregation on his behalf. The sermon is provided since clergy will all be at the Utah Synod Assembly May 3.

Pastor John Refsell + 1927-2015

Estes Park resident and retired Lutheran Pastor, Rev. John Refsell died on Good Friday, April 3, 2015 at the age of 87. John's wishes were to have a "Celebration of Life Service" Memorial Service which will be Monday, April 27, 2015, at 2 PM at Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church in Estes Park CO. He served six churches: Trinity Lutheran Church in South Milwaukee, WI, Edison Park Lutheran in Chicago, IL, Christ the King Lutheran in Denver, CO, St. Paul's Lutheran in Omaha, NE, American Protestant Church in Antwerp, Belgium, and Bethlehem Lutheran in Brush, CO. We surround his wife of 62 years, Dorothy, and his family and friends with our prayers as we give thanks for his life and ministry.

FAITH COMMUNITY NURSING COURSE


Faith Community
Nurse Foundations Course


The Faith Community Nurse Foundations Course will be offered at Glen Eyrie, in the back yard of the Garden of the Gods Park in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  It is a designated National Natural Landmark located at the base of Pikes Peak, the mountain that inspired "America the Beautiful".  This beautiful retreat setting will be inspirational. The course will provide trained FCN faculty, whole health experience and training with the new 2015 FCN curriculum.


Wednesday August 19 at 4 p.m. to Sunday, August 23rd at 
3 p.m., ending with a commissioning service.

Sky Ranch leadership training

opportunities for High School youth

 

Youth Go!

Youth Go! is a two-week leadership training program for High School youth. Campers return to their congregations empowered to lead and serve from their week that includes: community building through high and low ropes, a two night backpack trip providing time for prayer and reflection, in depth Bible study and worship planning, visiting some of the program specialists, service projects at Harvest Farm (run by the Denver Rescue Mission helping men with addiction), helping to lead worship and a 24-hour silent retreat.

Staff In Training

It's not a job. It is an attitude! For those who wonder what it would be like to work at Sky Ranch, this newly restructured program is designed to give you the knowledge and skills needed to be on summer staff. Everyone interested in being a staff in training will participate in a week of training on June 14-19. Everyone who completes this week of training is then eligible to volunteer up to three additional weeks throughout the summer, shadowing and working beside resource staff and counselors, as needed based upon the programs being offered.

Bridging Borders in Mexico

Rainbow Trail's Bridging Borders program is offering an "Open Registration" trip to Mexico for the week of July 5-11, 2015. This week of house building and community will leave your senior high youth with a renewed sense of their faith and a restored excitement for service.  This is a great opportunity for those who will not be going to Detroit for the Youth Gathering. The Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains Older Adult and Caregiver Services has an opening for a half-time Mental Health Counselor serving the Metro-Denver area.  We are looking to grow its mental health counseling program. With that in mind, this position requires someone with, not only counseling skills, but also someone with networking and outreach skills and is interested in growing this position from part-time to full-time within the first year. Also, position requires a LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker), LCP (Licensed Clinical Psychologist) or licensed psychologist to bill Medicare. Interim Training to take place in Denver

 

The Rocky Mountain Synod is sponsoring a Region 2 Interim Training series, consisting of three phases. Phase One takes place June 1-5, 2015, followed by Phase Two which is case study experiences. Phase Three will be January 18-22, 2016. Phase One and Three will take place at Bethany Lutheran Church, Cherry Hills Village, CO. This training is specifically for those who will be serving an Intentional Interim during the Transition Time in a congregation, but the skills and insights are also valuable for every congregation leader. LFS Honors Saint Timothy's Lutheran Church in Albuquerque

 

Congratulations to St. Timothy's Lutheran Church and Pastor Rachael Powell! They were honored at the Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains gala Saturday night. Saint Timothy's has been integral in supporting programs by offering its facility as a center for various refugee classes.
 

St. Tim's, as it is lovingly known, has hosted summer school programs, adult ESL classes, Job Smart classes, Cultural Orientation and the annual winter party. More than a dozen congregational volunteers have assisted with the winter parties and sponsored pillow drives in the last year alone. In addition, several church members volunteer at LFS to assist with office administration, apartment set-ups and cultural mentoring teams

Augustana Arts: Chamber Orchestra and Storytelling concert April 24 and April 25


The Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra joins with the denver-based Narrators, a group of storytellers, to bring a one-of-a-kind musical experience to life. Stories from the heart along with companion music, are woven together for a unique experience. Friday, April 24, 7:30 p.m. at Augustana, and Saturday, April 25, 7:30 p.m. at the McNichols building near the Civic Center building downtown.

Wartburg College organist present concert April 24 in Denver  


Dr. Karen Black will be featured in concert at Saint John's Cathedral in Denver, Colorado, April 24 at 7:30 p.m. The cathedral is located at 1350 Washington St. This concert will include works by J. S. Bach, Bernhard Bach, Mendelssohn, Hakim, Conte and Vierne.


Black is the Rudi Inselmann Endowed Professor of Organ at Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa. She teaches organ and church music; music theory and aural skills; serves as organist for weekday chapel and Sunday worship services; and conducts the St. Elizabeth Chorale.





Pikes Peak Ringers present concerts May 8 and 10


 

Pikes Peak Ringers, an auditioned community handbell choir in Colorado Springs, will perform two identical concerts in the Pikes Peak Region.  On Friday, May 8 at 7:00 PM their concert will be at Monument Presbyterian Church, 238 Third Street in Monument.  On Sunday, May 10 at 3:00 PM their concert is at First Christian Church, 16 East Platte at Cascade Avenue.  A free-will offering will be taken at each concert.  


Pikes Peak Ringers was established in 1991 by its director, Kevin McChesney, to provide an outlet for advanced handbell ringers and to create performances that showcase the instrument of handbells with the highest quality of presentation and musicianship.  In addition to performances throughout the Pikes Peak Region, they have been the featured group at national handbell events.  They have made six performance CD's and a DVD featuring the "Ring of Fire concerto for Handbell Choir and Orchestra."  They also sell an instructional DVD on musical presentation, titled "Music in Motion."

Lutheran Chorale in Lafayette and Longmont on May 17


Each May, we take a moment to pause and remember'a cherished friend, an important event, music composed or dedicated to remember loved ones.  On May 17, the Lutheran Chorale (a community Christian choir) will present a variety of gospel,  bluegrass, folk, patriotic, and classical pieces, including a composition written to honor the Civil War during this, the 150th year since the end of the war.
