Giving thanks for the life and ministry

of Pastor Max Diemer

The Rev. Max Henry Diemer completed his Baptismal journey on August 29, 2014. He was ordained at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Richfield, IA, on June 15, 1947 by his father. He served as a missionary to New Guinea. He later moved to Las Cruces, NM in 1986, where he served some interim ministries.

For 24 years, every Monday, Pastor Diemer served as Volunteer Chaplain at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces. Up until his death, he visited lonely and ill residents in the Health Care Center at Good Samaritan Village, a ministry he found very fulfilling. On June 10, 2012, the Trinity Lutheran congregation held a celebration to honor Max on his 65th year as an ordained minister. A Celebration of Life memorial service took place on September 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Las Cruces, NM. We give thanks for his life and ministry.

Cornerstone Time Capsule to be opened

at Elim Lutheran Church

Elim Lutheran Church, 575 23rd Street, Ogden, is celebrating the 125th anniversary of its 1888 founding by a small group of Swedish emigrants. The old, white frame church built in 1889 was replaced in 1948 by a new, red brick church, and an addition was added in 1963.

When the cornerstone to the addition was dedicated in 1963, a time capsule was sealed behind it. On Sunday, September 14, the congregation will file outside after the conclusion of the 10:00 a.m. worship service, the cornerstone will be opened, and the artifacts hidden behind it will be seen for the first time in 51 years. The historical artifacts will be on display at the church until Reformation Sunday, October 26, 2014, when Bishop Jim Gonia will visit Elim to preside at worship and speak at the 125th Anniversary Banquet.
