Greetings!
|
Maria Sutton is newest member of the RMS Office of the Bishop staff
Maria wiill greet you at the front desk or on the telephone as the newest member of the Administrative Staff in the Rocky Mountain Synod Office of the Bishop. She will be working with the email newsletter and other projects in support of our ministry together.
She moved from Fresno, CA, to Longmont, CO, in 1993. Her husband's name is Douglas Sutton and they have two daughters: Veronica who is 16 years old and Victoria who is 18. Victoria is getting ready to attend Bethany Lutheran College in Kansas this fall.
They have been members of First Lutheran Church in Longmont, CO, for 14 years. We welcome Maria to this half-time position. She will most typically be in the office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from mid-morning until the end of the day. Welcome Maria!
Garden Day is Monday, June 30
Lutheran Center garden
to get a late start this year
New raised beds are now ready, and Pastor
Pastor Michelle de Beauchamp, Well of Hope, Castle Pines, CO, has volunteered to coordinate a planting day for a late season garden start.
Bring gardening tools with them and snacks/lunch. You are invited to gather at 10 a.m. and Michelle will have the supplies and plants to put in some soaker hoses and do some planting. All are welcome to come and help out!
ELCA begins using new "forms" system after June 30 (no more Formatta!)
The "Go-Live Date" for new forms for Candidacy and Call Process within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is June 30, 2014. These new forms will be web-based, allowing them to interface more seamlessly with all computers, Web browsers, and small tablets.
Those currently in the process of completing a
Rostered Leader Profile (RLP) or updating one that is in the system, can continue to use the Formatta form until June 23, 2014. After that date, Formatta will no longer be able to submit your form! This information also applies to congregations that are in the process of completing a Ministry Site Profile (MSP). These deadlines will give the ELCA a week to complete the transition from Formatta and to move the data from all Formatta forms in the mobility database to new forms. After June 30 we encourage rostered leaders and congregations to access the new form and verify that it reads correctly.
As you review your new forms, or if you experience any difficulty with them, please feel free to discuss your questions or concerns with Janice Ladd-Horkey in the RMS Office of the Bishop. She can answer any questions that you might have about these changes and how they will affect you.
Visit www.elca.org/call for any updates or new information. Each rostered leader received an email letter with login credentials last week.

Being Church Together: Ministry Reviews
This past weekend, the leaders of Christ Lutheran in Cheyenne, Wyoming gathered with a ministry review team. Together they spent time in prayer, studying scripture, worshiped together, and talking about the ministries and life of the congregation.
Recognizing that congregations who spend time reflecting on who they are and who God is calling them to be is important to the health and mission of the congregation, the Rocky Mountain Synod is part of a pilot program that seeks to do a Ministry Review in every congregation in the RMS in the next 5 years.
The ministry review team in Cheyenne consisted of: Erin Power (Office of the Bishop), Rev. Wolfgang Stahlberg (Messiah, Denver), Richard Polluck Nelson (All Saints, Aurora), Collin Felix (Our's Saviors, Greeley), and John Power (Western North Dakota Synod Ministry Review Team). This fall, Erin will be heading up to Western North Dakota to serve on a ministry review team, to learn about their process.
How is your congregation partnering with other synods and congregations to be church together?
Do you have an event or story to tell? Email your stories to Erin Power.

TO THE POINT

Prevent accidental falls by hosting a prevention program
Most congregations have experienced older adults being injured or frightened from a fall, whether it was in the home, in the community, or even at church. Did you know that falls are not just a part of aging? Many falls can be prevented through balance-building exercise classes and programs to help guide seniors through making changes and decision that will reduce their risk of falls and allow them to keep their independence.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is expanding their fall prevention activities to many parts of the state. If your congregation is looking for opportunities to host fall prevention programs or promote them to your congregation, please contact Sallie Thoreson at 970-248-7161 or
sallie.thoreson@state.co.us
