RMS LUTHERAN CENTER

"Growing Home" Ministry Opportunity

consider having your congregation volunteer for one day in August to help homeless families

The "Office of the Bishop" is in one building at the site of the new RMS Lutheran Center. An adjacent church building includes a basement which for many years has been used as a site for a transitional housing ministry in Adams County called "Growing Home."  Similar to Family Promise (Interfaith Hospitality Network), homeless families are welcomed for a week on a rotating schedule at various church locations.  This Lutheran Center site has been one such location for many years.

Cross of Christ, Broomfield, CO, has taken the lead to staff this ministry several weeks a year, and they are inviting congregations to sign up to volunteer for ONE DAY in August to provide a meal and overnight volunteer hosts.

If your congregation would like to explore a one-night ministry opportunity, please send an email to Kent Mueller at kmueller@rmselca.org. You will accompanied well by Cross of Christ volunteers so you know what you need to do to share in this meaningful outreach.

 PRAYERS

Direct us by the light of that Spirit, that we may have a right judgment in all things and rejoice at all times in your peace, through Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

MISSION INTERPRETATION MOMENT

"Living your learning" is hallmark of Wartburg West

Wartburg College faculty and staff from Waverly, Iowa, visited Wartburg West the week of May 27. The college, known for it's 'living your learning' models, will celebrate the 30th Anniversary of its urban education extension program located in Denver next year.

While in Denver (summer, fall, or winter terms) students participate in internships, service learning, and core curriculum courses. They may do so as sophomores, juniors, or seniors.

One year ago, the program moved into facilities at Saint John's Episcopal Cathedral in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. This allowed for expansion of the program and incorporating students from Augustana-Rock Island for the first time. Discussions are also underway with California Lutheran University.  Because of the move, faculty and staff from various departments on campus, including the career development center, are helping evaluate and envision the growing opportunities available to students with a semester "in the city." During the week, the visitors met supervisors at internship sites and participated in a service project at Denver Urban Ministries.

Next week, 20 interns arrive for the summer months. Information on this program of a college of the church, located in the RMS, can be found at www.wartburg.edu/west or contact Co-Directors Revs Nelson or Bonita Bock at 303-860-7119.
