Peter Severson named new Director of Lutheran Advocacy Ministry Colorado
Peter Severson has been named the new Director of Lutheran Advocacy Ministery Colorado. He begins the last week of April.
Peter was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He attended Princeton University, where he participated in ecumenical and interfaith dialogue on campus, graduating with honors with a Bachelor's degree in the study of religion.
In 2009-2010 he served as an ELCA missionary in Cuernavaca, Mexico, through Young Adults in Global Mission. His work there included human rights advocacy, community organizing, and assembling wheelchairs alongside people with physical disabilities.
He earned a Master's degree from the University of Chicago Divinity School, specializing in the intersection of religious ethics, law, and politics. Peter has worked for the ELCA Churchwide organization since 2012, co-directing the campus ministry program and providing administrative support for the congregational renewal program.
He has experience in HIV/AIDS education and camp counseling, is an avid musician, and loves outdoor adventures. He is very excited to join the staff of the Rocky Mountain Synod and share in building a vibrant public church among God's people in Colorado! Welcome Peter!

WORLD MALARIA DAY
|
World Malaria Day is coming up on April 25 and it's another great opportunity to do something big for the ELCA Malaria Campaign. For the last several years, the ELCA observed World Malaria Day by dedicating an entire week to raising funds and awareness for our companions' programs. To date, we have joined hands in 12 African countries to help fight malaria, and we have seen great progress. This year, let's make it 13.
We are looking to you and members of this church to help take the ELCA Malaria Campaign work into the next country - Namibia. If we raise $250,000, we'll have enough to kick start programming in Namibia, the last country in our rollout plan.
Will you join thousands of ELCA members across this church and millions of people around the world in taking action? Please consider observing this day by taking a special offering for the ELCA Malaria Campaign on Sunday, April 27, 2014. Find special World Malaria Day resources that will help you activate your congregation to learn about malaria, the ELCA Malaria Campaign, our work in Namibia and more.

With Elements of a Seder
April 17, 2014 ~ 6:30-8:00 pm
Community of Joy, Rio Rancho, NM
Passover is the meal that Jesus was observing the night before his death, and that Jews across the world still observe as a high holy day every year. On this night, the story of the exodus is retold. It is a meal and worship service all wrapped into one. At Community of Joy Lutheran Church, we will remember how Jesus took this tradition and re-shaped it when he instituted the Lord's Supper. Our celebration will include Christian and Jewish elements, including Holy Communion. A simple sampling of traditional foods from a Passover will be served. Call 505-896-2543 to reserve a space.
