Two teams will be visiting all four of our companion synods in northern Madagascar. We remember them in prayer as they prepare for their journey. Oldest Congregation in the Rocky Mountain Synod Celebrates 135 Years

 

The pioneer church, Ryssby, is the founding church that became First Lutheran in Longmont with the merger of Ryssby and Elim congregations. Ryssby was organized January 3, 1878. Located several miles southwest of Longmont, CO, the church is now a Historical Site of Colorado's State Historical Society.

 

A celebration of 135 years takes place at Ryssby at this year's Annual Ryssby Midsummer Festival on Sunday, June 23. A worship service will take place at 11 a.m. followed by a catered lunch. Lunch reservations needed by June 19. Call 303-776-2704. Afternoon activites include the Lindsborg Dancers, carnival games, and more. Map.

ELCA MALARIA CAMPAIGN 

Thank you Rocky Mountain Synod! So far we have raised $246,154.01 for the ELCA Malaria Campaign. The Campaign has now surpassed $8 million and we are an important part of that. BORDER IMMERSION AT CRISTO REY
RMS Congregations Visit the Border 
 

Fourteen youth and four adults from Christ the Servant, Louisville, CO, and Atonement, Boulder, CO, recently joined Iglesia Luterana Cristo Rey, El Paso, TX, for a week-long Border Immersion Program. 

 

The youth had a meaningful time making Mexican gorditas and hearing the stories of members of Cristo Rey's congregation.They also prepared several hundred boxes in a local food pantry, visited many nonprofit organizations as well as tutored and played games with the kids of Cristo Rey's After School Program. It was a busy but exciting week! 

 

This week, Cristo Rey will welcome members of St. Paul Lutheran of Albuquerque, NM, for a 3-day mini immersion.

Zambia: Malaria prevention reduces maternity deaths   

 

At the Kashima Rural Health Center in Zambia, the death rate among pregnant women has usually been high. But last year, thanks to a malaria prevention medication program aided by ELCA contributions, there were no deaths, said Abel Makungwe, project coordinator for the Lutheran malaria program in Zambia. Red Cross Blood Drive is June 17 at Price, Utah

Ascension St. Matthew's is holding a Red Cross Blood Drive on Monday, June 17, from 3 to 8 pm.

The drive is in memory of Karen Wilson, daughter of Paul and Lydia Peterson. Lydia is the President of the Women's Group. Karen died from complications from leukemia requiring a lot of blood in the treatment. The congregation hoping for 50 donors in their first blood drive.

A production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" will take place at 7 p.m. at the Crazy Woman Square in Buffalo. The travelling youth choir is from Bloomington, MN.

Annual Mount of the Holy Cross pilgrimage dates set  

  

Mount of the Holy Cross Again this year Mount of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vail, CO, will sponsor two pilgrimage hike climbing Notch Mountain (13,237) in order to view the Mount of the Holy Cross (14,005). Because of the popularity of this hike and due to U.S. Forest Service regulations which limit each group to no more than 15 persons at a time, reservations are required.

 

Dates are Friday, July 26 or Saturday, July 27, 2013. The event will be from approximately 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day.  This is a fairly strenuous hike and requires good hiking boots and waterproof weather protection. Pre-registration is required.  Call Pastor Scott Beebe, (970) 476-6610 or email mtholy@vail.net for a registration form or for more details.
