BORDER SERVANT CORPS

Participants from PA to CO welcomed to the border immersion program

Iglesia Luterana Cristo Rey just finished a week-long Border Immersion Program with Temple University of Philadelphia, PA. The group was moved by the limited paths to family reunification, the mounting political frictions and, a midst the challenges, the determination of families affected by U.S. immigration policy. They left already making plans for next year's trip, the fourth Temple will make.

As Temple departed, Cristo Rey began gearing up for their next group: high school youth from Christ the Servant Lutheran of Louisville, CO, and Atonement Lutheran of Boulder, CO. Please keep these 18 youth and chaperons in your prayers over the next week as they partake in fellowship with kids, youth, and adults across El Paso, TX.

Haiti: ELCA contributions were vital to relief work

ELCA members donated more than $12.5 million to the recovery effort, recently concluded, in Haiti following the January 2010 earthquake there.

Through the immediate and long-term recovery work that rebuilt communities and restored lives, members "can see the fruits of their generosity," said the Rev. Raquel Rodriguez, director for the ELCA Latin American and Caribbean Continental desk. See www.ELCA.org/Haiti-recovery.
