January 29, 2013
Greetings!

With gratitude...

LINDA STAATS

Linda Staats has served in the Rocky Mountain Synod Office of the Bishop staff in the areas of Faith Formation and Youth and Household Ministry since 2009. She has brought to us a passion for a seamless journey of faithfulness throughout the entire spectrum of life, and she has built an expanding network of leaders in youth ministry, education, and Lutheran preschools.

Under Linda's guidance, Rocky Mountain Synod congregations have been challenged to be "safe havens" where people of all ages are treasured, and guidelines are in place through the "Safeguarding God's Children" program.

She was also a key leader in creating the Rocky Mountain Synod Generosity Project funded through an ELCA grant. The unique approach of the RMS project featured giving and generosity as a faith practice of households to grow faithful stewards in our homes and congregations through Bible study, prayer, cross-generational conversation and effective household faith practices.

"Linda brought a combination of experience, connection, and vision that has truly been a gift to the Rocky Mountain Synod," said Bishop Jim Gonia. "Her gracious spirit, her creativity, and her leadership have been treasures for us, and her passions will shape our ministries and priorities long into the future."

Our prayers of gratitude go with Linda as she continues the next chapter of her ministry. Thank you, Linda!

ROB MOSS

Pastor Rob Moss has served as our part-time interim Director for Evangelical Mission here in the Rocky Mountain Synod since August. This ELCA position on our local territory oversees our outreach strategy as new mission congregations are formed and declining congregations are renewed.

"We are most thankful to Rob and to the people of Church of the Master in Lakewood who 'loaned' us their pastor for four months in this unique circumstance," said Bishop Gonia. "Rob's passion for communicating well about God's mission in the world has been contagious, and his service in these months has been a gift to us."

Rob will continue to mentor our new Director for Evangelical Mission, Pastor Stephanie Quick Espinoza. Thank you, Rob!

OUR LIFE TOGETHER

Almighty and ever-living God, increase in us the gifts of faith, hope and love; and that we may obtain what you promise, make us love what you command, through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Medicaid logo Medicaid to be expanded in NM!!

It is very good news that Gov. Martinez announced on January 9, 2013, that New Mexico will expand our state's Medicaid program to include over 150,000 more people living in poverty.  This opportunity under the federal Affordable Care Act will bring health care coverage to low-income people throughout New Mexico.  The additional federal funds available to our state will mean that jobs will be created as more money is spent in our economy. Please use this link  to thank the governor for making this decision which will mean so much to so many New Mexicans.
