Club Forum to Feature Barrera, Gloria and Gomez
Dems for Equality Monthly Meeting on June 26th
Thursday's (June 26) Club meeting will feature Richard Barrera, SDUSD Board Member and Secretary/Treasurer of the San Diego and Imperial County Labor Council; San Diego City Council President Todd Gloria; and Club V-P Georgette Gomez. Each of them will talk about their fight against Nullification Politics - our term for buying legislation through Initiatives and Referendums when elected officials won't be bought. ...More...
Barrera and Gomez will talk about their experience fighting campaigns to pack the School Board, take away City employee pensions and overturn Barrio Logan's Community Plan. Council President Gloria will talk about his proposal to raise the minimum wage in San Diego and the initiative campaign gearing up to confuse and defeat it. We'll also propose some practical solutions (see below) to prevent nullification attempts in the future.
The Club meets at Joyce Beers Uptown Community Center, 3900 Vermont St in Hillcrest. We begin with a social [half] hour at 6:30 PM with the program beginning at 7:00 PM.

Resolutions To Be Considered at June Meeting
The Club's Board has recommended four resolutions for adoption by the membership at the Club's meeting on Thursday, June 26th. One resolution proposes that voter Initiatives and Referendums be placed only on General election ballots when voter participation is highest. The other resolution proposes that the City and the County follow the State's procedures that require that the top two vote-getters advance to the General election whether or not one candidate in the Primary receives 50% + 1 votes or more. A version of each of these two resolutions will be sent to the San Diego City Council and the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. Click on the images below to read the text of the resolutions.
