Nullification Politics

Dems for Equality Monthly Meeting on June 26th

So we've decided that the rights of a polluting business to set up shop where ever they choose is more important than the health and safety of Barrio Logan residents.  How did we get here exactly?  It's what we like to call Nullification Politics.  ...More...

San Diego Democrats for Equality will host a program on Nullification Politics at its June 26th meeting.  We will talk about examples of this phenomena, both locally and at a national level, and more importantly, we'll work on developing practical solutions to prevent nullification attempts in the future.  The Club meets at Joyce Beers Uptown Community Center, 3900 Vermont St in Hillcrest.  We begin with a social [half] hour at 6:30 PM with the program beginning at 7:00 PM.

The Primary Battle for State Controller Isn't Over Yet

John Perez Our endorsed candidate, John Perez, is in position right now to move on to November's General Election, but there are approximately 15,000 provisional ballots yet to be counted in San Diego County.

The Perez campaign has asked for help.  We need volunteers to observe the vote count process which could continue for several weeks.

For the most part, you will be asked to observe the process, make note of ballots that are assigned to the "not counted" or "challenged" stack of ballots and report results. It is a quiet, methodical process that we do with the cooperation of the staff at the Registrar of Voters. This is an interesting experience and one that is very important. Observers will be trained and an attorney will be assigned as advisor to assist with any issues that arise.

If you can volunteer for the same day(s) and hours each week it would be very helpful. Shifts needed this week and next are:

Monday       6/16             8:00 - 10:30  10:30 - 1:00  1:00 - 3:30  3:30 - 5:00
Tuesday      6/17             8:00 - 10:30  10:30 - 1:00  1:00 - 3:30  3:30 - 5:00
Wednesday 6/11 & 6/18  8:00 - 10:30  10:30 - 1:00  1:00 - 3:30  3:30 - 5:00
Thursday     6/12 & 6/19  8:00 - 10:30  10:30 - 1:00  1:00 - 3:30  3:30 - 5:00
Friday          6/13 & 6/20  8:00 - 10:30  10:30 - 1:00  1:00 - 3:30  3:30 - 5:00

If you can help make sure a Democrat is on the ballot for this important office this November, contact us here and we will pass on the information.
