Volunteer for David Alvarez for Mayor!
Mail ballots in San Diego's special mayoral election are going out this week, so volunteers are needed now to get out the word for our endorsed candidate, David Alvarez!
David is a longtime supporter of neighborhoods and working families. He has never been afraid to fight for our communities, even when that means taking a stand against the establishment. You can check out his blueprint for getting San Diego back on track here.
We can make the difference needed to get David into the runoff and elected as Mayor. Please join other Club members and Democrats throughout the county in volunteering for his campaign. There are several ways to get involved:
| - Join the San Diego Democrats for Equality and the LGBT and Allies Community on Saturday, October 26th from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to phone bank and walk for our candidate for Mayor of San Diego, David Alvarez! Meet us at David Alvarez's campaign headquarters located at 8316 Clairemont Mesa Blvd in Suite 212. Join club members, as we gather to support our candidate. Bring your friends, co-workers, spouses and acquaintances to spend the day getting out the word for David Alvarez. Please RSVP to this event to info@democratsforequality.org

The address is 8316 Clairemont Mesa Blvd., Suite 206/212, San Diego, CA 92111. They are open 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays and during the day weekends.

Political contributions are not tax deductible. City law permits only personal contributions and limits contributions to $1,000 per individual, per election. A couple may contribute $2,000 from a joint account if both parties sign the check. Campaign finance laws require the disclosure of name, street address, occupation and employer for each contributor of $100.00 or more in an election cycle.

Transformation Task Force to Present
Recommendations at the
October 24 Club Meeting
The Democrats for Equality's Transformation Task Force has been hard at work since June 2013 initiating conversations with membership and formulating recommendations for consideration by the General membership. Join us this Thursday, October 24, for an interactive discussion of the recommendations, including changes to the Executive Board structure, and to offer your thoughts on the future of the Club!
The meeting will be held at the Joyce Beers Uptown Community Center, 3900 Vermont Street in Hillcrest, with a social at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starting at 7:00 p.m. Please park in the underground parking garage at the Uptown District; if you park in the shopping center's surface lot you might be towed. Water and soda will be provided, members are encouraged to bring a snack item to share.
NOTICE OF BYLAW PROPOSED BYLAW AMENDMENTS
The membership will also be voting on bylaw changes to implement the Task Force recommendations:
- The Executive Board will be comprised of five elected officers: President, Vice President for Political Action, Vice President for Resource Development, Secretary and Treasurer.
- For 2014, all five positions will be elected. Starting in 2015, the Vice President for Political Action and the Treasurer will be elected for two-year terms. Effective in 2016, the President, Vice President for Resource Development and Secretary will be elected for two-year terms.
- In the event of a vacancy in the office of President, the Vice President for Resource Development shall serve as President until a special election is held to fill the vacancy.
- The President will appoint a Past President to chair the Nominating Committee. If a Past President is not available to serve, the President may appoint another club member, preferably a former club officer, to chair the committee. Three additional members will be elected by the membership at the October meeting. (The 2014 Nominating Committee will be selected at the October 24, 2013 meeting.)
- The Nominating Committee shall report it nominees at the club meeting preceding the club election, which will be held at the February meeting.

Celebration of the Life of Gloria Johnson
Set for Thursday, November 7
The memorial service for longtime Democrats for Equality Board member Gloria Johnson will be held on Thursday, November 7 at 1:30 p.m. in the Meeting House of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego, 4190 Front Street, San Diego 92103. Parking will be available in the church parking lot or the adjacent UCSD Medical Center parking lot.
