Did You Know?
Eye colour is very difficult to predict.  In fact, even if both parents have blue eyes they may still have a child with brown eyes.

Greetings!

Thanks for all your feedback on our new e-newsletters.  It sounds like we are hitting the mark as far as providing you with interesting and relevant topics in eye care.

This month we have some new information for you on macular degeneration, and our newest optometrist, Dr. Carla Bunn, provides her perspective on the meaning of "comprehensive eye care".

Talk to us on Facebook! for these and other topics of discussion on your most important sense!

When is sunlight most damaging to your eyes?  It's not what you think

We are told to limit our UV exposure and risk for sunburn by avoiding the hours when the sun is strongest - from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Therefore, these hours are also when our eyes are most at risk from UV damage, true or false?

Surprisingly, the answer is "false".

It's the most common form of vision loss affecting people over age 65, and is now considered the leading cause of blindness. It targets the central retina, or macular area, and while all cases do not necessarily progress to blindness, usually the longer one has the condition the worse the outcome. New treatments aimed at the more severe form ("wet" AMD) have been successful at limiting the extent of the vision loss, but the question I frequently get asked is whether there is any treatment for the "dry" or early stages of the disease.

Last month the long-awaited AREDS 2 study was published.
