MVO World Sight Day fundraising smashes record

 World Sight Day

Each October we fundraise for a charity known as Optometry Giving Sight, an organization that provides vision care services including eyeglasses for the underserved around the world. The numbers are in and we are pleased to report that we have had the strongest fundraising effort to date, with a total of $7,798.00 raised !

Many thanks to our staff, who brought in baked goods for sale, our suppliers, including Nikon, Zeiss, Maui Jim, iFrame, Safilo, Ronor, Creating Balance and Oakley for providing eyeglasses, lenses and other merchandise for our silent auction, our doctors, who donated their professional fees on World Sight Day and of course our patients, who participated in various ways including contributing directly, to make this event a total success! And, of course to Amber Grove, whose tireless efforts to organize this made it all possible.

To put into perspective, this money will supply over 1500 people with the eye care they need, including glasses if needed, to attend school or work to support their families. Thank you to all who were involved.

New equipment increases eyeglass measurement accuracy

We've invested in some new equipment to ensure that your eyeglasses provide you with the best possible vision. The iTerminal from Zeiss Vision Canada is a high-tech imaging device used to capture several important measurements used to manufacture your eyeglasses. Image

Our new digital eyeglass lenses require more than just your eyeglass prescription. The way your frame sits on your face is critical to assess - everyone is different, and if this is not accurately measured the outcome will be less than perfect.

The iTerminal takes a few seconds to take a series of images of how your eyewear is positioned in front of your eyes. It also takes pictures which are useful in determining how those frame choices actually look on you - no more straining to see with close-up mirrors. We can now show you by quick comparison how one frame looks vs. another. We can even email them to you so you can show your friends!

Your vision performance is important to us. The iTerminal gives us one more tool to ensure that you are seeing as clearly as possible. Book an appointment for an eye exam and try out the latest technology in prescription lens .

Nearsightedness decreases with outdoor activity, according to study

Image

Nearsightedness, or myopia, is a condition that causes distant objects to become blurry, requiring glasses or contact lenses for clear vision.  Because it's so common, we often get questions about what causes it, especially from parents who are concerned about their child's rapidly increasing eyeglass prescription.  Except for genetics, there have not been any clearly identifiable factors that have been shown to influence the development of myopia, until a recent study from Australia was published.
