Southern Freedom Movement for the 21st Century. Project South
| |
We made history in Jacksonville!
Over 200 people and 40 organizations came together and continued to build the Southern Freedom Movement for the 21st Century.
Young people brought visions of building power to redefine education. Workers made the call for "Not one more Deporation." LGBTQ organizers made plans to build a world that is safe for all bodies in all spaces. Families spoke on behalf of incarcerated loved ones, locked up for defending themselves. Community members demanded an end to poverty and hunger. Midwives shared visions of healing births, pregnancies, and the right to raise our children.
People from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Florida agreed to work together for dignity, justice, and freedom.
Check out the amazing news coverage! >>>
On Friday we celebrated the history of Jacksonville FL as contested ground where sit-ins were met with mob violence, pastors were threatened and told not to invite MLK to speak, and where, today, social programs are cut while a $350 million dollar courthouse is built to convict more and more juveniles every year.
