Veneer: See the grain
Scott Munger, our veneer department supervisor (shown right), shares his thoughts on veneer.
"A beautiful aspect of veneer is, of course, its grain. A common practice is to apply dark stain to even the most beautifully grained veneers, losing much of the wood's natural beauty.
I like to recommend capturing the beauty of wood and achieving a darker look by choosing a veneer that is naturally dark. Ebony and wenge are great examples. You still see the grain but capture that dark color palette so many architects are finding complements their design.
It's true these more exotic, dark veneers can be more expensive in terms of material costs but in many instances you make it up in time spent on finishing to achieve the looks these veneers naturally supply."
