Large glass, boat-shaped table features removable end sections for multiple uses
Designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects, this 31-foot boat-shaped boardroom table was recently installed in Massachusetts.
The table is unique because it features two removable end sections to create a smaller table when needed. It also incorporates modern materials and an attractive edge detail.
The tabletop features back-painted, low iron, tempered glass with an acid wash overlaying a polished stainless steel inlay that protrudes slightly and sits above a solid maple reverse knife bevel edge. Under the table is a solid maple beam and bases in standard maple veneer with access doors for wire management and adjustable levelers. Hatch lids accessing custom ECA Interact UT power and data boxes are in glass. The box includes a duplex outlet, standard voice and data connectors, and a 15-foot cord. Fourteen tabletop button style, push-activated retractable microphones are by Clockaudio.
It was built along with a 12.5-foot horizontal file storage cabinet and two 15-foot dining tables in plain sliced ash veneer in a book and butt matched pattern. The veneer was stained to match the architect's room design and coated with unrubbed, semi-filled, semi-gloss catalyzed lacquer with a 40 degree sheen. The dining tables were bar height at 42 inches and set on casters.
Two simple carts and protective blanket wraps provided a storage solution for the removable table ends when not in use.
