WallGoldfinger is FSC certified furniture maker
For the benefit of the environment and clients, WallGoldfinger is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified.
Called the "gold standard of forest management," the FSC is an international organization that promotes "environmentally sound, socially beneficial and economically prosperous management of the world's forests" to:
- Protect water quality
- Prohibit the use of highly hazardous chemicals
- Limit clear cutting to protect forest ecology
- Protect high conservation value forests, such as rare, old growth
- Prevent loss of natural forest cover
- Protect customary rights of indigenous people and local communities
To achieve and promote this standard, FSC representatives certify forests with a Forest Management certification and those companies, like WallGoldfinger, that use forest products with a Chain-of-Custody certification.
The Forest Management certification provides assurance that forests are being managed to the highest environmental and social standards, explains WallGoldfinger FSC Coordinator and purchaser Tim Swartz. Chain-of-Custody certification assures that products bearing the FSC label directly support responsibly managed forests.
WallGoldfinger purchases FSC certified lumber, veneers and panel materials.
To be FSC certified, a project must contain a minimum of 70 percent FSC certified materials with the remainder FSC controlled wood, or wood that is not from FSC managed forests but meets certain environmental standards.
Clients seeking an FSC certified project must notify WallGoldfinger in advance so FSC materials are used and so WallGoldfinger can be extra diligent in tracking these materials as part of the project certification process and annual audit WallGoldfinger undergoes.
Clients seek FSC certified projects to earn Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) points. LEED is a widely respected program of the U.S. Green Buildings Council.
