Walnut and stone make statement of strength

This one-of-a-kind custom boardroom table designed by Perkins and Will carries the prestige one would associate with the Chicago financial institution for which it was built.

Spanning 24 feet in length and able to comfortably seat 24 people, this custom boat-shaped table features a quartered figured walnut veneer perimeter in a radial pattern, brushed stainless steel quarter-inch inlay and three-quarter-inch-thick "Ripple" marble polished panels with a honed outer band, divided by honed bridge bands. The walnut is stained to match the customer's needs and a semi-gloss lacquer has been painstakingly applied to a 40-degree sheen. The table incorporates 12 microphones, and there is an apron with power outlets, plus data, mini-stereo, HDMI and VGA jacks in reconfigurable plates.

The product took nearly a week and a half to draft, 35 hours to veneer, five working days to program and cut using our CNC (computer numerical control) machines, 186 hours of woodworking and nearly a week in finishing.

The end result is a contrast of light stone and dark wood that makes a statement of reliability, strength, tradition and confidence, and follows two marketplace trends - incorporating stone and a tendency toward darker, walnut finishes.
