Wicked Plants Opening

Join us for the opening of our newest traveling exhibit:  Wicked Plants.

The North Carolina Arboretum brings you a new traveling exhibit inspired by Amy Stewart's best selling book Wicked Plants: The Weed that Killed Lincoln's Mother and other Botanical Atrocities. This fun and family-friendly exhibit gives visitors a hands-on experience with some of the world's most diabolical botanicals ~ without the risk of pain, poisoning, dismemberment or death.

Western Heritage Horticultural Society

We hope you will join us, beginning in January, as we kick off a new adventure with the Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame.  On January 12, 2016, at 4pm at the Museum, we'll be hosting our first planning meeting of the Western Heritage Horticultural Society.  A core group has already met with Museum Director Dr. Darrell Beauchamp to develop a set of by-laws for the new organization.  The following is taken from the opening statement of those by-laws:

The purpose of the Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame Western Heritage Horticultural Society (hereafter referred to as "the Society") is to assist the Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame (hereafter referred to as "the Museum") Education program through education, training and outreach activities; and to actively promote the spirit of New Mexico Junior College, the Museum and its education programs whenever possible, through the use of horticulture and gardening initiatives.

In addition to our creation of the society, to work with the museum's education program, the museum and the society will work together to establish heirloom gardens at the museum and will continue our work on the museum's landscaping project in front.
