Wicked Plants Opening

Join us for the opening of our newest traveling exhibit:  Wicked Plants.

The North Carolina Arboretum brings you a new traveling exhibit inspired by Amy Stewart's best selling book Wicked Plants: The Weed that Killed Lincoln's Mother and other Botanical Atrocities. This fun and family-friendly exhibit gives visitors a hands-on experience with some of the world's most diabolical botanicals ~ without the risk of pain, poisoning, dismemberment or death.

Christmas Forest

For seven years, the Museum has organized a magical Christmas forest throughout the Museum.  This year, we have over 20 trees decorated all around the Museum with a mix between designer trees and community trees.  Everyone involved gets excited when the tree-decorating starts, with plans having been made for months.  Some bring their own ornaments while others use some of the Museum's decorations.  Every tree has a theme and it's fun to see how each individual chooses to bring out that theme.

Christmas Trek

We have a new Trek available for our Christmas exhibit. There are 48 questions total but you only play 10 questions at a time.  If you play the trek again you'll get another random set of 10 questions.  The questions have to do with the trees, Bonnie Moran's North Pole Village and the traditions posters set up around the Museum.  Good luck!  Check out www.nmjc.edu/museum to find all the available treks.

Museum Store

There are only 15 shopping days left until Christmas. Are you ready?  Why not stop by the Museum to see what unique and special gifts we have available in our Museum Store?

Members and NMJC staff and faculty receive discounts on many items in the store.  A red dot means 50% discount for all patrons.  We also offer free gift wrapping for purchases over $20.

Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame Silver Concho: Steve McCleery

After 43 years in Higher Education, approximately 32 years at New Mexico Junior College, and 18 plus years as president of the one of the finest colleges in America, Dr. Steve McCleery plans to retire on July 31, 2016. McCleery has been with the college since 1984, serving as Director of Athletics then Dean of Arts and Sciences. McCleery is the fifth President in the college's 50-year history.

"Steve McCleery has been an exceptional President," says Pat Chappelle, Chair of the Board of New Mexico Junior College. "During his tenure the college has expanded and grown exponentially to meet the needs of Southeastern New Mexico. One of his greatest achievements was the implementation of the Strategic Master Plan and the Facilities Master Plan, two documents that have helped us as we make decisions about the future of New Mexico Junior College." "Dr. McCleery has the ability to make students, staff and faculty feel welcome," states Ron Black, Secretary of the board and former NMJC faculty member.
