At the time of this newsletter, the first day of the 2014 Staked Plains Roundup will be coming to a close. Today, alone, close to 800 second graders toured the Museum grounds where they learned about ranching, dairy farming, weaving, saddles, roping, folk dancing, and nature in the Staked Plains. After a quick lunch, the kids watched the finale: trick roper, Brice Chapman and the Native American dancers. Tomorrow we do it all over again with 800 different children. We'll have a more concise list next week but here's a quick thanks to all the volunteers! We couldn't do this without you.

Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame
Nominations for the 2014 Bronze Inductees have ended. If you are a member, expect to see a ballot in the mail within a couple of weeks. Join us on November 8 for the Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame awards banquet and celebrate with us the 2014 Bronze Inductees, Silver Concho, Young Rancher and Working Cowboy. Must be a member to attend the banquet.
In other news, the Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame has given $7,000 in scholarships to students of the NMJC rodeo program as well $1,500 to the rodeo coach's travel fund for recruitment. |
This is the last weekend to see Saddle Up as it is now. As of September 15 we will be moving the saddles throughout the Museum and setting up Arte en la Charreria in the South Gallery.

Arte en la Charreria
The crates for our new exhibit finally arrived the morning of what was to be the opening. We opened Saddle Up instead and let the crates get acclimatized to our environment. After Staked Plains we will begin the exhibit transition. Look for Arte en la Charreria to open within the next couple of weeks and stay tuned for information on upcoming Family Fun Days.
