Pokémon Go Tour @North Saturday September 10 3:00 - 5:00pm Come along on a group tour of the North Berkeley library neighborhood to find local PokéStops and more! Bring your device loaded with the Pokémon Go App and join the fun. Don't have one? We've got a Wifi HotSpot and an iPad to share. We will load up on Poké Balls, Pokémon Eggs (hatch them while you walk!), and catch as many Pokémon as we can. If you have leveled up, you can battle at local Pokémon Go Gyms. All ages welcome. Children under 12 years old must to be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Moderator Peter Leyden (former managing editor at Wired, founding director of the New Politics Institute, and founder/CEO of Reinventors) will ask the candidates the tough questions about housing and homelessness that will shape Berkeley's future. Read more.

 Author Cecile Pineda, Reading & Discussion @CentralSaturday, September 24 2:00-4:00pm Cecile Pineda reads from her forthcoming book, Three Tides: Writing at the Edge of Being, and shares 40 years of the writing life, the breakthroughs, the discouragements, and daily practice. She will be introduced by Professor Marcial Gonzalez, U.C. Berkeley Dept. of English, and author of Chicano Novels and the Politics of Form: Race, Class, and Reification. Reading is followed by a robust discussion with the audience and book signings. Tuesday, September 27 5:30 -7:30pm Joe Lurie, Executive Director Emeritus of the International House at U.C. Berkeley, presents an enlightening talk, spanning his thirty plus years of experience in leadership, both at the International House and abroad. He explores the deeper cultural messages that typically escape people due to their prejudices, be they conscious or unconscious. Lurie reveals how cultural filters distort perceptions of others in the worlds of immigration, diplomacy, and business. |

Elixir is a functional programming language with a Ruby-like syntax that runs on the Erlang virtual machine. This will be an interactive class where we will learn the basics of Elixir and some basic functional programming concepts. RSVP here.
