What brings together Free Comic Book Day, Paws to Read, kids' hula and a Newbery Award-winning author? It's your Berkeley Public Library in May! There are so many things you can do. We have performances, story times and more for all ages and all interests at your library!

On Free Comic Book Day, grab a free comic book and enjoy comic-themed activities at all library locations!

Come read to dogs at the North Branch.

Celebrate Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month by learning to do the hula at West and Central.

Kids ages 7 and up can make their own book bag to carry home lots of books from the library!

Hear award-winning author Kwame Alexander tell you all about his new book,  Booked!

Eth-Noh-Tec Storytelling @North

Folktales from all over Asia are told in the dynamic and interactive storytelling style of Eth-Noh-Tec! The  storytellers take us on an adventure of the imagination, weaving a variety of traditional tales with music, movement, and acting to bring the characters and places to life. Ages 5 and up.

Mark Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month with Berkeley's Thai Cultural Council (TCC) students and master artists performing traditional and folk Thai dances accompanied by the TTC's classical band. All ages.

Saturday, May 28 11:00-11:30am  Learn to do both sitting (Noho Hula) & standing hula with Filipino American author, illustrator & hula dancer Edna Cabcabin Moran. She willshare a story from one of her books about Hawaii! Edna dances with Na Lei Hulu I Ka Wekiu. Ages 3-5.

Celebrate Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month. Make a simple dragon puppet from paper and chopsticks.

Author, poet and educator Kwame Alexander, winner of the 2015 Newbery Medal and a 2015 Coretta Scott King author medal for The Crossover, will visit for a very special program for kids ages 9 and up and their parents. Third floor Community Meeting Room.

Comic Book Buttons at 3:00pm: make a button from a recycled comic book or comic strip! Make your own personalized button! Make one of  your favorite superhero!   

@Claremont
Kids and teens can participate in various drawing activities, including a collaborative dry erase mural on the Teen Room wall.

@Tarea Hall Pittman South
Watch a bit of Garfield: The Movie or Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties. Make  buttons out of recycled comics. All ages are welcome!

@West
Pick up your free comics and join us for Super Hero button making, shrinky dinking and video watching.
