Watch Something!

Films of the West

Fridays, 3:00pm
Third floor Community Meeting Room.

November 6
My Darling Clementine
(1946 / 97 min.)
Wyatt Earp (Henry Fonda) takes the job of marshal in Tombstone, aiming to avenge his younger brother's death. Earp and Doc Holliday (Victor Mature) hook up to find the killer just as Doc's paramour, Clementine Carter (Cathy Downs), arrives from the east. Breathtaking cinematography, a classic story and great performances by Fonda and Mature make this one of director John Ford's finest films. "Poetry," said one critic.

November 13
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
(1969 / 110 min.)
Butch Cassidy (Paul Newman) and the Sundance Kid (Robert Redford) are outlaws on a disappearing American frontier at the turn of the 19th century. William Goldman studied the Cassidy story for years before turning it into an Oscar-winning screenplay in which characters and dialogue gently parody the western genre. Butch Cassidy breaks the "cowboy movie" mold, helped quite a bit by comic chemistry between Newman and Redford.

November 20
Smoke Signals
(1998 / 89 min.)
Victor and Thomas are childhood friends, but wildly different--Victor knowing and stoic--Thomas inquisitive and sunny. This is the story of their trip from the Coeur D'Alene Reservation to Phoenix to collect the ashes of Victor's father, who had loomed large for each of them. Made using all Native American staff & actors, it's in the best indie tradition and critically acclaimed for its humor, poignancy, writing and acting. Don't miss it. We present it in honor of Native American Heritage Month.
