September is a busy month for the Library. School has started. It is National Library Card month, when we encourage everyone to sign up for a Library card.

Banned Book Week is an important topic at the Library. Freedom to read is vital.


We are very proud of Berkeley READs, our literacy program. They will receive an award from the League of Women Voters of Berkeley/Alameda/Emeryville in later September.

Teach someone to read! Come learn more about Berkeley READS Adult and Family Literacy at our orientation. If you decided to volunteer, we are offering free training. Read more

Join North Branch in an after-hours celebration of Banned Books Week as we welcome graphic artist Eric Drooker, who will discuss his friendship with Allen Ginsberg and their collaboration on the graphic novelization of Ginsberg's iconic, and much banned, poem, HOWL.


 
Banned Books Game @West

Teen Services and West Branch celebrate Banned Book Week with a display of the best banned books and a game, Guess the Banned Book. We will have a large jar filled with a shredded banned book. Teen contestants are invited to fill out a raffle ticket with their guess. At the end of the week we will have a drawing and the lucky winner will win a fabulous prize!
