Non-stop Summer Fun!

August is right around the corner and the good times at the Library keep on rolling. Read on to find out about more of the fun, free events we've got going on at a library near you to finish out the summer.

That's not all, though. Keep reading for #bplsummer. Post photos of yourself, your friends, and your family reading this summer on Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #bplsummer. We'll feature our favorites on our website!

And remember: this year's Summer Reading Game is all-ages, so get your siblings, your friends, and everyone else you know in on the action!

September 7th is the last day to pick up prizes or enter our raffle!

Finish off your newsletter experience with an interview Teen Librarian Jack did with Noelle Stevenson - known on tumblr as gingerhaze , writer of Lumberjanes, and writer-illustrator of Nimona! More great stuff than you can handle!

Book Review

by Oisin McGann

The last thing you'd want is to be standing in front of a Safe-Guard with something to hide. Safe-Guards might be part human, somewhere beneath their graphite-colored helmet and cloak. But what they really are is a walking camera that can see through walls along with electronic sensors that can hear your heartbeat and certainly know when you're not telling the truth. And if a Safe-Guard knows you're lying, then WatchWorld Control knows.

Nimmo is a rat runner, an expert at dodging the cameras and Safe-Guards, but when his neighbor is murdered, Nimmo must leave his safety zone. Soon the crime boss Move-Easy has given an assignment to Nimmo and his fellow rat runners Scope, Manikin and FX. Find a missing box. The only problem is, Nimmo already knows where it is. Now he wants to figure out why his neighbor was murdered for it.

National Night Out

National Night Out is coming on Tuesday, August 4th!  This annual evening celebration features block parties and house parties all over town, with the intention of introducing neighbors and building community.

At the Claremont Branch, you can and have fun getting a little dirty as participants of all ages will be able to make a terrarium to keep and care for (while supplies last) in this free, fun program! Have a glass jar with an interesting shape- bring it by for transformation.

At South Branch, there will be a special movie screening of The Goonies along with games and crafts.

West Branch and the Library on Wheels will be getting in on the action as well!

Keep pace with all the goings-on at the City of Berkeley's National Night Out page.
