Children's News & Events @ Berkeley Public Library
August 2015

As summer winds down, don't forget to drop by the library for some more summer fun! We've still got fun free programs for kids - the last of our Lawrence Hall of Science Inventors Workshops will be at North Branch, our annual Peace Day/Sadako and the 1,000 Paper Cranes origami program at Central, Bilingual Music with Mariela Herrera at Claremont, and even more music with Gary Lapow at West and Dave the Horn Guy at South.

And don't forget about National Night Out - the first Tuesday of August. Our Library on Wheels (also known as the Book Bike) will be out and about on that evening helping communities celebrate.

Maybe the last lazy days of summer are a good time to finish up your reading for the Summer Reading program. Studies show that children who read at least six books over the summer maintained or improved their reading skills, thus helping to alleviate the dreaded summer slide.

You still have time to sign the whole family for #bplsummer reading online or in-person in any Berkeley Public Library location. You can sign up individually or as a group. Individuals who finish get a prize and a raffle ticket for additional prizes.

The last day of Summer Reading is Monday, September 7th, and the raffle will be held soon after - remember, the more reading logs you finish, the more raffle tickets you can enter!

Also, check out our events calendar for programs for all ages, including intergenerational programs.
