Peace Day/Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes @Central

Help fold a thousand origami cranes to send to Japan, hear our Playreaders perform parts of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes and listen to beautiful koto music by Shirley Kazuyo Muramoto & Brian Mitushiro Wong during our annual Peace Day commemoration.

Berkeley Barb: 50th Anniversary Celebration @Central

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the  Berkeley Barb with us.

Peter Dale Scott and Dr. Eugene Schoenfeld (Dr. Hip) will be featured, along with panels consisting of Barb editors, staffers, contributors and a wrap up academic analysis.

Betty Reid Soskin: A World War II Homefront History @Central
Sunday, August 16
1:30pm-4:00pm
Betty Reid Soskin visits the library to recall Richmond and an African-American woman's  home front experiences during World War II. She was employed in the segregated Boilermakers Union A-36 in Richmond during World War II.

See a short movie of Richmond during the years 1942-1945, and the this exceptional speaker and home front hero will share her stories. Betty is currently the oldest working National Park ranger and works at the Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Park in Richmond.  Her talk will move you.
