June 2015

It's time for our All Ages Summer Reading 2015 Program.

Sign up here and download your #bplsummer game card, or pick one up from any of our library locations. Once you've done that, just start reading, streaming, browsing, or visiting your local library. Every time you do, put an X on your game board. 30 X-s and you are a WINNER!

We have great prizes for you to claim every step of the way, and EVERY TIME you finish a game board you will get entered into a grand prize raffle! Enter again and again and again and again...

That's not all, though. Post photos of yourself, your friends, and your family reading this summer on Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter with the hashtag #bplsummer. We'll feature our favorites on our website!

And remember: this year's Summer Reading Game is all-ages, so get your siblings, your friends, parents and everyone else you know in on the action!

We look forward to seeing you at the library all summer long! Use the #bplsummer hashtag to keep in touch

Four Fun Reads!

Hippos Are Huge!

by Jonathan London

What's the deadliest animal in Africa? It's not the lion or the crocodile - it's the hippopotamus! Hippos have razor-sharp tusks, weigh as much as fifty men, and can run twenty-five miles per hour! Follow these hefty hulks as they glide underwater, play tug-of-war, swat balls of dung at one another, and nuzzle their young in the mud. Just don't get too close-they could chomp you in two!

Space Boy and His Dog
by Dian Curtis Regan

Niko may live on boring old Earth with his family, but he's always finding a new adventure. Using the spaceship that he built from a box in his backyard and a little imagination, he flies off into space with his robot, Radar, and his dog, Tag. The only one NOT invited is his sister Posh who keeps trying to insert herself into Niko's story!

Families
by Shelley Rotner

Big or small, similar or different-looking, there are all kinds of families. Some have one parent, some have two, and many include extended family. This inclusive look at many varieties of families will help young readers see beyond their own immediate experiences and begin to understand the experiences of others.

Fish in a Tree
by Lynda Mullaly Hunt

"Everybody is smart in different ways. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its life believing it is stupid." Ally has been smart enough to fool a lot of smart people. Every time she lands in a new school, she is able to hide her inability to read by creating clever yet disruptive distractions.  She is afraid to ask for help; after all, how can you cure dumb? Her newest teacher sees the bright, creative kid underneath the trouble-maker. With his help, Ally learns not to be so hard on herself and that dyslexia is nothing to be ashamed of.
