A message from the Director I am retiring in October, after almost eight years at Berkeley Public Library, and 25 years as a librarian.
It has been a great pleasure to serve the community. Because of your extraordinary support we were able to accomplish much, not least of which was the branch improvement project. The Branches are lively and exciting neighborhood destinations for all ages - accessible, safe, well-lighted and welcoming. Keeping with Berkeley's "Green" image, they are also very energy efficient, which will serve them well into the future.
I want to thank the staff of the Library, the Board of Library Trustees, current and past, the Friends of the Berkeley Public Library, the Berkeley Public Library Foundation and the people of Berkeley for making my stay here so rewarding. Thank You. Sincerely, Donna Corbeil Director, Library Services Berkeley Public Library

How to Cheer Up Dad By Fred Koehler
Little Jumbo just can't understand why his dad is having such a bad day. It could not be the raisins Little Jumbo spit out at the ceiling or the bath he refused to take - after all, Little Jumbo's dad knew he hated raisins and had already taken a bath that week!
The Fourteenth Goldfish
By Jennifer Holm Eleven-year-old Ellie has never liked change. She misses fifth grade. She misses her old best friend. She even misses her dearly departed goldfish.
Then one day a strange boy shows up. He is bossy. He is cranky. And weirdly enough . . . he looks a lot like Ellie's grandfather. Could this pimply boy really be Grandpa Melvin? Has he finally found the secret to eternal youth?"
Tiny creatures: the world of microbes By Nicola Davies Illustrated by Emily Sutton
All around the world - in the sea, in the soil, in the air, and in your body - there are living things so tiny that millions could fit on an ant's antenna. They are busy doing all sorts of things, from giving you a cold and making yogurt to eroding mountains and helping to make the air we breathe.
