It is hard to believe that it is already August. Our two Summer Reading games, Paws to Read for kids, and Summer Reads for teen are over on August 16.

Meet your neighbors and get to know your neighborhood library better! There will be fun for all ages. Staff will be on hand to tell you more about library services. Come by and say hello!

 

National Night Out @Central 

Tuesday, August 5, 6:00-8:00 pm.  

Join the Library, the Downtown Berkeley Association, local residents and organizations to celebrate National Night Out! Please join us in the courtyard next to the Library entrance on Kittredge for kids' crafts and a special surprise for adults!

 

National Night Out provides local residents an celebration of community with their neighbors. We look forward to saying hello!

Come one, come all for an afternoon of crafting! Bring a project and sewing machine, or come for inspiration. The library provides two sewing machines, embroidorange-pink-thread.jpgery hoops, floss, and needles, clay, beads, hot glue guns, and much more... including inspiration!

Introduction to Facebook and other social networking sites. Learn how to set up an account, set privacy setting and post items. Get your social networking questions answered in this hands-on class. No registration required.

 

iPads @Central

Wednesday, August 20, 11:00 am-12:00 noon.

Introduction on using iPads tablets. Use ours or bring your own. Search the web, play games and more. No registration required.

Learn about the Library's digital services available for your tablet or smartphone. We will go over streaming music and movies, downloading books and magazines, and learning a foreign language. Bring your own device or borrow one of the Library's iPads. No registration required.

 

    

Computer Classes @Central

Monday 6:00-7:00 pm. and/or Thursday, 10:00-11:00 am. Third Floor Electronic Classroom. Go at your own pace. Introduction to email, internet, etc. No registration required.

 

South Branch Library is Gold-LEED Certified

The Berkeley Public Library South Branch and Tool Lending Library, which opened to great acclaim on May 11, 2013, has achieved LEED Gold certification for new construction. Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class sustainable building strategies and practices.  

 

San Francisco architectural firm, Field Paoli, 

who designed the new South Branch Library, received official notification on June 20, 2014.

Describing the design concept, Principal Avery Moor said, "We literally raised the roof, creating a 20-foot high central browsing room that brings daylight into the three reading rooms and shared cool air through operable clerestory windows and ceiling fans."

Pet Supply List

As part of the Children's Summer Reading Program, the Berkeley Public

Library is collecting donations of supplies and food for the Berkeley Humane Society through August 15th.  

 

 

Please bring items to the collection bins at a Branch Library or in the Central Children's Room.

Friendly staff answer your repair questions at the Tool Lending Library.
This is a great time to build a treehouse, fix the eaves or work in the yard. Visit the Berkeley Public Library's Tool Lending Library.
