Welcome to the Berkeley Public Library Teen Newsletter! Happy summer!

This newsletter will come out every two weeks all summer long, and is your source for info about all the stuff that's happening at the library. We'll share event news, book reviews, library tips, random fun stuff, and more!

Let us know what you think, and if there's anything we can do for you. Your wish is our command. (Seriously!)

Writing Workshop for Teens

If you write, this is the place for you.

Most of our writers are in middle or high school. They write fiction or poetry. Songs or comic books. Screenplays or fan fiction. Some perform spoken word. Some illustrate. Some do it all. Some haven't written in a long time. Some write on their phones. Some write poems but always forget to bring them to workshop. No matter.

If you're a teenager and you write, this is the place for you. Join the 2012 Oakland Youth Poet Laureate, Stephanie Yun; young adult author, Stephanie Kuehn (Charm & Strange, Complicit), novelist and teaching artist, Erica Lorraine Scheidt (Uses for Boys), and our favorite graphic novelist (top secret) in three writing workshops designed especially for YOU.

Ages 13-17 * July 8, 15, 22  * 2-3:30 pm * FREE

Book Review
Ten

By Gretchen McNeil

Ten teens receive Facebook invites to a secret party at a remote island mansion off the Washington coast...one by one they are picked off by a killer.

As bodies begin to pile up, you won't guess who the actual killer is. For all fans of teen horror fiction, Ten has it all: a stormy night, a disturbing video, cut phone lines, suspicious disappearances, secrets, and plenty of twists.
