Library and our four great branch libraries.

Come listen to free concerts, create something cool at Makerspace; or borrow tools that will let you design and create your own art at home.

Whether you need a saw to build a table or tiny pliers to finish that jewelry, think of the Berkeley Library Tool Lending Library first.

Take home a book on felting or a DVD about Cezanne. Check out the art exhibits at the Central Library. Use our website 24/7 to find an article in African Art magazine with our Arts Full Text & Index or other arts databases. Need help finding something? Ask a Librarian!

Arts & Culture Resources at
 Berkeley Public Library
Want to learn to play the guitar? How about learn a new song or try a new Beethoven sonata? We have  musical scores and songbooks in the Art & Music Room on the fifth floor of the Central Library. There is also extensive reference material on the arts that you can use in the Library or access from home.

Get inspired to landscape your yard, plan some home improvements, quilt or make jewelry. Books and magazines are available on these and many more topics at all locations.

Put a hold on a book, DVD, CD or musical score and have it sent to any Berkeley Public Library location.

Can't find a book in our Library? Try searching Link+, a great service that gives you access to books from 62 California and Nevada public and academic libraries.

Berkeley artist and author, Pete Najarian exhibits a retrospective of figurative paintings connected to his writing and plein air landscapes influenced by local master painters.

Najarian's two books, The Artist and His Mother and Daughters of Memory, explore the connection of portraiture and the legacy of survivors of the Armenian Genocide.

Book Club @South - "Read and Share." A book club for anyone who likes to read and wants to share the books they have read with others.

Make Things!  

Makerspace @North - Bring a project. The library provides two sewing machines, embroidery hoops, floss, and needles, clay, beads, hot glue guns, etc.

Saturday, July 5, 2:00 - 5:00 pm.

 

Knitting Hour @Central. Learn to knit at our inter-generational group. Ages 8 and up. All skill levels welcome. Some supplies provided. 4th floor.
Saturday, July 26, 3:15 - 4:45 pm.

Theater
Playreaders @Central. Read plays aloud and change parts frequently. Ages 18 -80+. Community Meeting Room, 3rd floor.
First & 3rd Wednesdays, 12:00 - 1:00 pm.

The Art of War Tattoos
Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans!

Do you have a tattoo that memorializes your service?

War Ink wants to feature your tattoo in  an online art exhibit. The deadline is June 30. Find out how to submit your tattoo and your story here. We will link you to the online exhibit this November.
