PTSO President's Message
I hope everyone enjoyed their break and are excited about starting into the second half of the school year.  Thanks to all the teachers, administrators, parent volunteers and students who made our first semester a success.

A special thank you goes out again to Mr. Carpenter for organizing and hosting Roland Grise's third annual Turkey Trot.  Even though the weather caused it to be postponed until after Thanksgiving, the students had a great time participating in the running race, tug-of-war, dance off and cheering on their classmates!

The school dance held on November 15th was again a big success!  A big thank you goes out to all of the parents who donated drinks and goodies and came out to help chaperone or sell tickets.  Our next dance will be after school on Friday, January 31st!  So put it on your calendar and join us for some crazy dancing and pizza.

We are a little behind in our fundraising goals for the year, so we will be hosting a giant YARD SALE in front of the school on February 22nd from 8 am to 12 noon.  Start going through your closets, attics and garages and donate all of your "treasurers" to our Yard Sale to help us raise money for the Roland Grise PTSO.  Additional details about the Yard Sale will be provided in upcoming email blasts or you can contact Tovi Heffron (tovi.heffron@gmail.com) who is organizing the event.

Our next PTSO General Membership Meeting will be held on February 6th at 7:00 pm in the school gym.  The meeting will be brief and will be followed by the always favorite Students vs. Staff Basketball Game.  This event is always a great time and good for a few laughs!  Our slate of officers for next year will be introduced during the meeting, so if you are interested in serving on the PTSO Board next year please contact Heather Black (theblacks5@gmail.com) or any of the other board members and let them know.  We would love to have your help and it is a great way to get involved in your children's school!

Principal's Report

The second nine weeks is complete with everyone working hard in all areas of instruction. Roland Grise is continuing our Benchmark testing in Science 8, Reading, and Math through February.  These assessments help the teachers plan and deliver the appropriate instruction.

Enclosed with your child's report card is the North Carolina School Report Card highlighting the school growth and composite for this past year. Our school met all 25 of our annual measurable objectives and met a year's growth! You may access complete data at the website at www.ncreportcards.org.

I am very proud of our students for their work at the science fair and invention projects this year! Many of our students are now preparing for Science Olympiad and MathCounts as well as the newly formed Chess Club.  Look for a follow up communication to see how we are working with the John T. Hoggard Beta Club tutoring starting in late February.

Thank you for your continued involvement in our school as we continue to be a 21st century school.

Best Regards,

William Hatch

Principal

FYI- Report Cards are delayed until February 4th, possibly later.  Thanks and sorry on the lateness.
