Membership Committee Chair
As the seasons change, so will the future membership articles. I will be interviewing a "feature member" each month in order to have them highlight their business and create another avenue for networking with fellow members. The first member selected is Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat for Humanity is non-profit organization providing housing and home repair for low income individuals in Washington and Dodge counties. Ninety five percent of the homes are built by volunteers. To date, Habitat for Humanity has built 28 homes with three more under construction. The homes are financed at 0% with Habitat providing the funding. I personally helped on a project in West Bend which was very rewarding and I would recommend volunteering both for the experience as well as adding it to your resume.
There are three Restores accepting donations: West Bend, Beaver Dam, and a newly opened location in Germantown. Donations are always needed and greatly appreciated.
Well done Habitat for Humanity!
If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Habitat for Humanity main office in West Bend at (262) 338-0690.

Education Event
Inform, Educate, Network
The three fundamental goals of your builders association in Washington County are to "Inform, Educate and Network". In the interest of bringing the greater membership current, relevant and informative industry information, the Education Committee provides many opportunities throughout the year for members to come out and learn. Six times per year, a guest speaker is invited to present at the dinner meetings as a way of providing valuable information designed to improve your business. All members are invited to attend these social evenings as a way to network and gain valuable new insights. Topics have ranged from OSHA regulations and GREEN-building initiatives to marketing methods and administrative business tools.
In addition to the dinner meetings, the Education Committee also schedules two major Education Events per year. This past spring, for example, over 25 members attended a Lead-Safe Renovators Refresher Class at Cabela's in Richfield. This class was offered as a way for members who are lead-safe certified to maintain their certification through participating in this required continuing education course. As fall approaches, the Education Committee would like to schedule another event.
This time, however, we'd like YOUR OPINION! So we ASK YOU, the members of the Washington County Builders Association, what would YOU like to see in the way of further education topics? Please contact me, Matt McCabe, with your ideas. You may call me at (262) 794-1655 or simply send me an email at [email protected].
Please weigh in on this important issue. Keep in mind that the topic should be one that can be tied to CEU credits for dwelling contractors.
The Education Committee looks forward to your input!
Thanks and best regards,
Matt McCabe, Education Committee Chairman

A Message from the WCBA President, Dirk Wildt
We need your input!
At the last board meeting we had a discussion about bringing to you additional networking opportunities throughout the year. A suggestion was presented to follow a familiar format of meeting at a members business where they would provide appetizer(s) and beverages for the attendees and in turn learn about the host business and network with fellow members.
Inform, educate and network coinciding with financial responsibility is the focus of your board as well as providing new opportunities and ideas to the membership. To make sure we on track with this and other events, look for a short survey to be sent out in the next couple of weeks seeking your opinion. Please take the time to fill out the survey so we can get your comments and as a result provide opportunities that you want to participate in.
