After months of planning, the 2014 WCBA Building & Remodeling Expo is in the books. This year's event was a huge success, despite having a conflict with the NARI show in West Allis being the same weekend. Next year's Expo will be held February 6-8, 2015. The NARI show will be the following weekend which I have confirmed with them, so we will not have the same problem next year. Despite the conflict, our attendance was up from a total of 1105 in 2013, to 1682 in 2014. That's an increase of 577 people in attendance! This year we stepped up our advertising with 43 ads on Fox 6 in addition to the local newspapers and local radio.
One of the keys to this year's Expo's success was sharing the people attending the Hunting and Fishing show in the Ziegler building next door. The people attending the show next door could enter our Expo at a discounted rate with the purchase of their show. I am currently trying to build on this success and am in the process of working with the Fair Park to coordinate another show next door, next year, to complement our show. Keep in touch as the details will be announced when they are worked out.
Again this year our guest speaker was a huge success. Gus Gnorski, formerly from Fox 6 and WTMJ radio's "Ask Gus", spoke on Saturday and Sunday with an attendance of about 40 people each day to benefit from Gus' vast knowledge.
We would like to thank our presenting sponsor: Uptown Motorcars; our Gold sponsor: Weather-Tek Design Center and our Gus Gnorski sponsor: JT Feyrer Exteriors LLC.
I would also like to take this moment to thank all the people that helped make this year's Expo a huge success and look forward to working with all of you again next year! If anyone would like to help with next year's Expo, please contact me, Jeff Feyrer at (262) 305-1673 or send me an e-mail [email protected] . A little bit of your time would be much appreciated!

Congrats to the Certified Lead Safe Renovators!
Education Committee Chair
Wednesday, March 26 th marked the first WCBA Education Event of 2014. Twenty-seven remodeling contractors completed their continuing education credits required to maintain their certification as Lead Safe Renovators. The four-hour refresher course, sponsored by the WCBA and presented by The Milwaukee Lead and Asbestos Information Center, was held at Cabela's in Richfield. After the class, the attendees received their updated photo-IDs and certificates, and then enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Great lakes Café in Cabela's. If you missed this opportunity and need to complete your required course work, visit www.mlaic.com for a full training class schedule or call Heather Tillman at (414)747-0700 for further information.
NOTE: If you require the services of a Lead Safe Renovator, please call Matt McCabe at (262)794-1655 for information on how to contact a lead-safe certified WCBA member!

Membership Committee Chair

Thank you to all the members who participated in a successful 2014 Expo. I would like to welcome 2 new members to the WCBA: BK Framing - who specializes in Custom framing, matting, as well as sports related items; contact Bob Kopydlowski at (262) 968-5915. This past week we had our monthly board meeting as well as a dinner meeting at the Fox & Hounds with another good response from our members. A question came out of the meeting that I would like to ask all members to participate in. The question: As a member, what do you like about the WCBA and what improvements would you like to see? The WCBA is always striving to make membership more beneficial for all the members and your input is always important and welcomed. Please take a moment to send your comments to the WCBA at [email protected] or myself at [email protected].
Thank you.

A Message from the WCBA President, Dirk Wildt
The calendar says spring is here, but is it really, I'm not sure. One thing I do know is that there is a revived interest in new homes and remodeling. Increased customer traffic and favorable projections from the experts are good indicators that this will be a good year in the construction field and related businesses. We are at a pivotal point in our industry and turning the corner towards increased activity in the building trades which we would all agree is good news and long, long overdue.
Please join us for next month's general membership meeting at MJ Stevens restaurant on April 10th starting at 5 PM. These meetings offer you a chance to get out and self-promote your business during the networking hour followed by a great dinner and then a speaker with topics related to our industry or ideas to improve your business. Come join us, all are invited from member owners, employees or guests.
See you at the meeting!
