How can cities leverage unused agricultural land to increase the supply of locally available and create new jobs and farmers? 

 

What small scale urban agriculture solutions are bearing fruit? Is it possible to create an economically viable farming business on one or two acres of land? How can the USDA help? What are innovators in the sustainable urban agriculture space doing? 

 

What policy needs to be put into place to facilitate an active agricultural economy in a city and on its fringes? These and other questions will be the focus of Seedstock's upcoming Grow Riverside: Citrus and Beyond! conference, which is set to take place on March 19 - 20 at the Riverside Convention Center in Riverside, CA. (Read more...)

Perris Valley Line Metrolink Extension Awarded $75 Million Federal Grant

The San Jacinto Branch Line Commuter Rail (Perris Valley Line) Project is a 24 mile extension of the Metrolink 91 Line, currently providing service from Riverside to Fullerton and downtown Los Angeles. 

 

The extension would begin at a junction with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe line, north of the city of Riverside and turn southeast along the San Jacinto Branch Line. The terminus of the Line is in the City of Perris at Route 74 and Ethanac Road in Perris. Service is expected to open in mid-2015 and is expected to carry more than 4,000 passengers per day. (Read more...)

Business Spotlight:
Angel Wings Bakery

Angel Wings Bakery is an online gourmet bakery and social enterprise committed to helping break the cycle of poverty and end homelessness. 

 

The bakery offers a variety of gourmet treats that can be ordered online and sent directly to your home or office. Jeanne Nelson, their pastry chef, trained at Le Cordon Bleu and interned under famous cake artist Collette Peters. A few of the goods they offer include seasonal cookies, gourmet cakes, cookie truffles, lemon tarts, and their signature Angel Wings shortbread cookie.

 

This social enterprise was birthed from Path of Life Ministries, a premier nonprofit that has provided homeless services in Riverside for over 10 years. Their goal is to rescue, restore, and rebuild the lives of those in crisis by offering a holistic system of care. Much more than a bakery, Angel Wings was created with two goals: 1) Provide a sustainable income source for homeless services, and 2) offer transitional employment opportunities to eligible Path of Life guests.
