A new initiative has taken hold in the effort to create real and intelligent remedies that will attract capital, generate jobs and encourage sustainable communities all over California. This initiative is the California Economic Summit which aims to advance regions-driven solutions that promote economic, social and environmental progress throughout California. On May 11, 2012, the California Stewardship Network, an alliance promoting economic vitality and California Forward, a bipartisan good government reform effort to improve performance and democracy, hosted the first California Economic Summit: Thriving Regions Lead to a Thriving State. (Read more...)

Girish Balachandran Appointed As New RPU General Manager

Girish Balachandran, a 23-year veteran of California municipal utilities, including water, electric and natural gas, has been named General Manager of Riverside Public Utilities. His appointment by City Manager Scott Barber was approved Dec. 12 by the Riverside Board of Public Utilities. Balachandran comes to Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) after serving as General Manager of Alameda Municipal Power since 2007. His first day in Riverside is Jan. 27. "I'm honored to be provided with the opportunity to lead an organization with such a rich history and outstanding reputation in the utilities industry," Balachandran said. Inland Premium Packers, Inc.

Inland Premium Packers, Inc. was established in Riverside by Mel Fierro in 2004 and is primarily a tomato packing facility with many high volume customers. Mr. Fierro began his career in the produce industry at just 9 years old picking oranges in Redlands, Riverside and Corona groves. He began distributing fruit as a teenager, building relationships and earning the trust of farmers he had picked for over the years. Inland Premium Packers, Inc. employs 50 workers at the packing facility in Riverside and the company has two transfer facilities in Nogales, Mexico and San Diego as well as a distribution center in Stockton. Mr. Fierro is planning a major expansion into Arizona in the near future as business continues to grow. (Read more...
