Job Growth 'Picking Up Steam' and Leading Indicators Experiencing 'Solid Performance' Says Recent Economic Report
Last week, Beacon Economics released its first Intelligence Report detailing the current economic climate of Riverside and providing insight into the outlook for the area.
Sponsored by the City of Riverside and the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce, Beacon was hired to help the community better understand the dynamics of the local economy so that businesses and the agencies working to help businesses can develop better short and long term strategies. Business Incubators Provide Economic Opportunities for Local Entrepreneurs
One of the City's goals has been to develop a business incubator to encourage entrepreneurial development and facilitate the creation of new businesses. Business incubators play a critical role in Riverside's success in developing a vibrant and robust entrepreneurial economy. Last week, Riverside continued to stand behind that philosophy and invested $91,000 of its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding into an expanding incubator managed by the Innovation Economy Corporation.
According to the National Business Incubation Association, "Businesses which participate in an incubator program have a success rate of approximately 80% over a five year period, compared to rate of 20-30% for non-incubated business." (Read more...)

State of the City 2013: "Imagine What We Can Accomplish By Working Together"
On January 24, 2013, Riverside's 17th mayor, William "Rusty" Bailey, delivered his first State of the City address to an audience of residents, business owners, fellow educators, current and past elected officials, several of his students, and his family.
"Through my conversations of the state of our city, I discovered this: the state of our city is responsive and responsible, dynamic and sustainable, inclusive and intelligent. These are the words that I believe best describe and exemplify OUR city."
That statement set the tone for the new mayor's articulations of his commitments and vision for Riverside, and he referenced three themes that he not only integrated into his address and (per Bailey) will continue to refer to throughout his time in office: Gratitude, Leadership Philosophy, and Challenge.
