New Year's Resolutions for Your Business
 As Riverside continues to experience more optimism in the local economy, and in the spirit and tradition of the New Year, it's a good time to make resolutions for your business or future business. Below are five recommendations that every company or entrepreneur could benefit from implementing in 2013.
#1. Out with the Old, In with the New: De-cluttering your business can be just as satisfying and rewarding as cleaning out that one particular kitchen drawer. Think about processes that consume a lot of your resources, but don't provide much in return, and be strategic about either streamlining or eliminating them altogether. Riverside's Babcock Laboratories Wins Significant USEPA Contract
 The United States Environmental Protection Agency has selected the independent Riverside, California based environmental testing firm, Babcock Laboratories, Inc. (dba E. S. Babcock & Sons), to provide analytical laboratory services in support of the new Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Program (UCMR3), says CEO/CFO Allison Mackenzie.
As a contractor to the USEPA, Babcock Labs will conduct UCMR3 water quality testing for up to 800 communities serving populations below 10,000 people.
"We are proud of our significant historical role in the region and equally pleased to play an important role in Riverside's future," said Mackenzie. "In keeping with the City of Riverside's commitment to innovation, the award of this contract proves Babcock Laboratories' dedication to innovative technologies and environmental protection. This contract is yet another illustration of our ability to be recognized at the national level as an environmental industry leader." (Read more...)

State of the City Address to Focus on City's Economic Future
The City of Riverside's new mayor, William "Rusty" Bailey will share his vision for the community at his first State of the City Address on Thursday, January 24, 2013. Business and community leaders will also hear a report on Riverside's Economic Outlook from Jordan Levine, Director of Economic Research at Beacon Economics, LLC.
Levine, a leading authority on the California state economy and its many regional economies, is responsible for running and updating Beacon Economics' quarterly state and metro area forecast models and plays a leading role in the firm's major consulting projects. He has conducted economic forecasting and analysis for the Office of the California State Controller, the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, and many others.
The once luncheon will become an evening event this year, with doors opening at 5:00PM to the Riverside Auditorium and Events Center with a reception to follow. In addition to the Mayor's address and Riverside Economic Outlook the program will include the Annual Hero Award presentation and Keep Riverside Clean and Beautiful will announce Beautification Award winners.
