PA Turnpike Non-Revenue Card
Doing work on the PA Turnpike?

If you do work on the PA Turnpike be sure to have your Non-Revenue Card on hand to show the toll attendant and make sure to wrap your transponder securely in a read prevent bag so that tolls are not incurred and charged to your BESTPASS account. We have been informed by the PTC that the transponder must be  properly wrapped in a read prevent bag.  If for some reason the transponder still reads, we will need a copy of the Non Revenue Card to submit a credit request on your behalf to the PTC for consideration.  A refund is not guaranteed; the PTC will make the decision to approve or deny the claim on a case by case basis. Further, it can take awhile before we receive a decision.  BESTPASS can provide you with a authorized read prevent bag.

If you have any questions or you require a read prevent bag, contact customer support at support@bestpass.com or call 518-458-1579.

REMINDER: DAMAGED TRANSPONDERS

Avoid Damaged Transponder Fees

Damaged Transponders

As we have, of late, experienced a spike in Damaged Transponders being returned and ultimately Damaged Transponder Fees being charged, we thought perhaps a quick reminder was required. Let's start with what E-ZPass considers to be a damaged transponder:  Essentially if a device cannot be easily refurbished and reused by E-ZPass it will be marked as damaged. In order to not be charged a damage fee E-ZPass should be able to take a returned device, reprogram it and/or replace battery and send it to a customer for use.  They of course take into account some normal wear and tear, but the life expectancy of all devices is at least 10 years.

E-ZPass reviews each device for both physical and cosmetic damage.  If, for example, the cover of the transponder has... gashes, cracks, is broken, or has other hardened adhesives (besides the two approved Velcro strips), it will be marked damaged. If, for example, the cover has been defaced... written on with permanent marker or paint, bleached due to cleaning products, has customer applied labels, or the device is covered in grime it will be marked damaged.  These are just some examples of what is considered as damaged, we are asking you, your maintenance staff and your drivers to please make every effort to reduce any chance of damage.  These efforts will ultimately translate into reduce costs to you. Please ensure transponders are properly mounted, do not write on them or apply unnecessary labels, adhesives, etc...  The image above shows examples of transponders deemed damaged by E-ZPass.

BESTPASS recognizes there are deficiencies in the current damage assessment policies at E-ZPass and we continue to be a voice to influence them as they review and potentially adjust their policies going forward.  We are also very close to offering a low cost protective transponder case to help protect against potential damage.

It is important to remember the transponders used by BESTPASS are rented from E-ZPass.  If they are returned damaged to BESTPASS, BESTPASS is charged by E-ZPass for their replacement.  BESTPASS has no control or input as to the determination of damaged and thus any charges for a damaged transponder will be applied to your account.
