Dragon Family-

Don't forget- Thursday, September 18th is Minimum Day. All students will be dismissed at 12:45 PM. Please see the website for the minimum day schedule.

We have a lot happening this week at PK- be sure to check out our new and improved website to keep you in the know at Pennekamp!! First up this week, we have Back to School Night for grades 2-4 to support a MCHS calendar conflict we had a minor time adjustment to our schedule. This year's BTSN will begin at 5 PM in the cafeteria with a General PTA meeting and overall presentation by Dr. Brown to kick off the evening. Classrooms will be open from 5:50-6:10 and 6:15-7:35 PM allowing for two classroom presentations in each grade level. With the shortened time frame and to offer the ability to meet with an upper and lower grade teachers at this event, we are offering two homeroom sessions that will contain the same information both times. Last, don't forget BTSN is also Dragon Dinner night so if possible join me for dinner at Fresh Brothers before you head to PK!

I have been working with staff and PTA to determine a new way to maintain campus security and instructional time from 2:15 PM until the upper grades are dismissed at 2:45 PM. I am asking again that parent and students avoid the quad near 4th and 5th grade classrooms and field/playground area on the PECK side of campus until dismissal at 2:45 PM. In an effort to preserve the community of parents that wait for upper grade dismissal, I would ask that students and parents to please use the lower playground and stay clear of the 4th/5th grade classroom area and PE field/blacktop area for instructional time. Please note the gate by Room 32 will be locked until 2:45 PM dismissal. I really appreciate your support with this and hope together we can adjust to this change.

EASY MONEY!!! One more easy way to raise money for Pennekamp PTA- and it will be less than 10 minutes! The Blue Zones Project is asking for survey information from anyone over the age of 14 to complete the survey link below and PK will get $1 for every completed survey up to $2,000!!! Get your family members online and help raise money for PK with just a few clicks!! Thank you in advance for your time and support!

Thanks to Dr. Geithman for his recent GATE information meeting, please use this link for more information regarding his presentation. http://prezi.com/myxlddhge5h0/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy

If you are interested in helping coach an Odyssey of the Mind team for Pennekamp, please let me know and I will support team communication for those interested. Also, with all the interest surround Maker Space I wanted to share an upcoming event to attend the upcoming STEAM Carnival http://twobitcircus.com/event/steam-carnival-los-angeles/ - get your tickets early as this is going to sell out and will be a great experience!

Finally, it has been hot here in Manhattan Beach and in order to be safe, here are a few reminders to keep our children safe in the heat. Sunscreen and lip balm should be worn daily, and hats are permitted outside while playing so please feel free to send one with your child. Water bottles that can be refilled during this heat are ideal as we want to make sure our children are hydrated throughout the day.

Looking forward to a great week and seeing you soon at one of our upcoming events!

Sincerely,

Dr. Brown
