Got life-giving greens?!? We're trying to get in as many as we can, especially during this rich and sugar-laden holiday food time of year. Why? They pack an astounding amount of vitamins A, C, some B vitamins, minerals calcium and iron as well as a range of cancer fighting anti-oxidants.  Here's an excerpt from Dr. Mercola's article on eating greens, "Plant chemicals called phytochemicals can reduce inflammation and eliminate carcinogens, while others regulate the rate at which your cells reproduce, get rid of old cells and maintain DNA."

If you'd like to join us in getting your greens in, I'm shooting for a pound a day (raw) for us adults and half pound for our kids.
Smoothies, salads and adding greens to soups, stews and stir-fries will get us there!

If you would like us to pack you a farm-fresh share, here is an updated "Create Your Own Farm Fresh Share" form.  And for those of you who like to squirrel away items in bulk for Winter, we're also offering a "Winter Storage Share."  Both shares are for farm pick-up or delivery to Saturday farm markets or during our regularly scheduled deliveries.

We're sending the following triple-washed greens to markets on TC and Boyne on Saturday: Tuscan & curly Kale, arugula, spinach, chard, Asian greens, broccoli, Napa and green cabbages with all of our sweet carrots and other roots, taters, Winter squash and onions.

Our New Barn Update front of new barn
This weather has really been a blessing to move the project forward.  Siding almost complete.  Ceiling being installed.  Metal roofing here to finish the porch.  Garage and other doors arriving next week, hopefully!
Insulation in the mix. We've successfully paid year 1 of our 7 year loan. :-)

Thanks to all who've come to our Farm to Table & Barn-Raiser dinners at Tapawingo, put on by catering masters, Greg and Ginny of  A Matter of Taste. This Saturday's event is a full house and we are so grateful.  Having on-site storage has always been an issue, as well as a large enough and comfortable space to wash and package our beautiful veggies.

Big purchases to like coolers and equipment to more efficiently wash our root vegetables coming soon...

Ryan and I are grateful beyond words for all the support we've received to even get to this place in our business.  Thank you for any part you've ever played in helping us get here.

Affectionately yours,

Andrea Romeyn

Tuscan Kale & Carrot Soup
Andrea Romeyn, Providence Farm
Tuscan kale soup
Two medium red onions, 8 medium rainbow carrots, 1 pound German butterball potatoes, one bunch Tuscan kale, 3 cloves garlic, sea salt and pepper to taste in the turkey soup broth I made from our Thanksgiving turkey. (You may use chicken or vegetable broth instead, of course.) The only problem is I didn't make enough for my family, who all wanted two bowls each.

Rainbow Chard Stir-Fry
Andrea Romeyn,
Providence Farm
Rainbow chard stir fry

So simple and tasty. I sliced a large golden cipollini onion and 8 rainbow carrots and sauteed them in 2 Tbs coconut oil until almost done, (crisp-tender). Then added garlic, chopped-up rainbow chard and soy sauce to taste, stirring until chard is wilted.  Served over aromatic Basmati rice.

This beautiful natural wreath was one of 9 made at our class this Thursday!
Great job, Megan.

HelpHelp Us Share The Harvest!
Week 12's share
(Update: Good Samaritan's Food Pantry as well as two area individual families have been sponsored so far, beyond what Ryan and I are already doing!) Every season, Ryan and I make it a priority to share what we grow, and we've seen the need in northwest Michigan grow each year with us.  Each week during the growing season, we donate a wide variety of our organic vegetables to four area food pantries, including Good Samaritan Family Services in Ellsworth, which serves over 700 families each month! We also give CSA shares to individual local families, all totaling several thousand pounds of produce each year.

If you'd like to help us expand our reach, you can partner with us by donating any amount to go towards our "Sharing The Harvest Fund".  You may designate whether you want to add more to our food pantry donations or you can sponsor an individual family with a CSA share.  Each new 18-22 week CSA family is given a free From Asparagus to Zucchini - A Guide To Cooking Farm-Fresh Seasonal Produce Cookbook, invited to our CSA potlucks, tours and events, as well as sent helpful email newsletters with recipes and storage tips, just like all of our new CSA members!  Ready to commit, have questions or know a family who'd appreciate fresh, nutritious, local produce through our Sharing The Harvest program?  Email us.
