Greetings!

The Holiday season is in full swing and 2015 will be here before we know it! We would like to wish you & your family a very healthy and Happy Holiday & Happy New Year!

The Turkey Burn Charity Workout was AWESOME!  Everyone who participated in the workout definitely earned their Thanksgiving feast!  Fifty participants  including members and their freinds, families and nieghbors participated in the hour long strength circuit class out back in the chilly morning air.

This month marks the end of 2014 which makes it an opportune moment to take stock & evaluate your life.  To help you do this, we focused our feature article on an exercise called The Life Wheel.  While it only takes about 10 minutes to complete, the insight it provides is profound.  We encourage you to set aside 30 minutes to do this exercise, evaluate the results, & set your goals for 2015.

If getting more fit & more healthy is a goal of yours for 2015, then stay tuned for our New Year, New You challenge starting in the new year!  Back for the third year in a row, this is an awesome 6-week challenge that will kick-start your journey to better health.  Plus, the winning team wins $2,000!

Finally, congratulations to all of our Rock Your Jeans challengers on dropping 2 jean sizes in just 8 weeks!  You rock!!!

   Healthfully yours,

Preparing for the New Year

"Your life does not get better by chance,
it gets better by change."
-Jim Rohn

As we draw near the end of 2014, many of us naturally start to evaluate where we are in our lives - what we're happy with, what we're not so happy with, and what we want to do differently next year. However, even though we all do this naturally, we don't always do it purposefully which is why we usually find ourselves in a similar place at the end of the following year, with the same unfulfilled wishes and desires.

At the recent Wellness Symposium at Evolution Fitness we featured guest speaker and personal /professional life coach Laura J. Mansfield. During her presentation, Laura took the audience through an exercise utilizing the Life Wheel, an easy-to-use tool aimed to help evaluate where you are and where you'd like to be.

"The Life Wheel is one of my favorite coaching tools," says Laura. "It's an exercise that can take as little as 10 minutes but always yields valuable insights into what's working in one's life, what isn't, and what needs to change."

"The Life Wheel exercise encourages us be honest with ourselves about what we want out of life and what we're willing to do to get it," Laura continues. "We all have a finite amount of time each day to use in a way that supports our priorities. Yet often what we say is important to us and how we choose to spend our time is inconsistent. For example, let's suppose that you're unhappy with your job. You find it utterly draining and you want to make a change. The Life Wheel exercise will help you visualize where you're investing your time and energy and consider which areas may have to take a back seat for a while so you can focus on a career transition. Perhaps your life wheel shows you are really happy with the recreational aspects of your life. The question becomes: are you willing to give up some of the time and money that you spend on recreational activities in order to pursue avenues that will ultimately improve your career satisfaction, such as going back to school or working with a career coach."

As you evaluate your Life Wheel and begin to determine which areas need the most attention, Laura recommends asking yourself how willing you are to put in the effort you need to make a given change, rating it on a scale of 1 - 10. If you find you are not willing to put in a level of effort higher than a 5, then there's a good chance that it's not as important to you as you thought. There is nothing wrong with re-evaluating your priorities as you do this exercise. After all, finding out you are not that motivated to make a change in one area frees up your time to make changes in other areas that are much more important to you.

"The Life Wheel exercise is not about judging yourself harshly or rating yourself," advises Laura. "It's about honing in on areas where you feel your life could use more attention and helping you put a plan in place to move closer to the life balance and fulfillment you are seeking."

This year, we encourage you to use this tool to help you evaluate your life with purpose and then make a plan of action for 2015 in the areas you most want to improve. Do this and there is no way you'll end up with a Life Wheel that looks exactly the same next year.

Recipe of the Month
Grain-Free Cauliflower Pizza

Ingredients: Makes one 10"-12" pizza

Crust:

1 small to medium sized head of cauliflower

¼ teaspoon kosher salt

½ teaspoon dried basil

½ teaspoon dried oregano

½ teaspoon garlic powder

¼ cup shredded parmesan cheese

¼ cup mozzarella cheese (more for topping)

1 egg

1 tablespoon almond meal (optional)

a few shakes of crushed red pepper (optional)

For the topping:

Sauce

Mozzarella Cheese (or cheese/s of your choice)

Optional Toppings - get creative...Veggies?

Directions: Place a pizza stone in the oven, or baking sheet & preheat oven to 450 degrees.  On a cutting board, place a large piece of parchment paper and spray it with nonstick cooking oil. Wash & thoroughly dry a small head of cauliflower. Cut off the florets, you don't need much stem. Pulse food processor for about 30 sec., until it gets like powdery snow. You should end up with 2 to 3 cups "cauli snow". Place a steamer insert into a saucepan and fill with water to just below the bottom of the steamer. Bring water to a boil. Add cauliflower, cover, and steam until tender, about 15 minutes. Dump cooked cauliflower onto a clean tea towel & allow to cool for a bit. Once cauliflower is cool enough to handle, wrap it up in the tea towel & wring out as much moisture as you can. (This will ensure you get a chewy pizza crust instead of a crumbly crust.) Put cauliflower into a bowl & add Parmesan cheese, mozzarella cheese, kosher salt, garlic powder (not garlic salt), almond meal & a dash of red pepper (both optional). Before adding basil & oregano, crush up the leaves even more between your fingers. Add your egg and mix away; hands tend to work best. Once mixed together, use your hands to form the dough into a crust on your oiled parchment paper. Pat it down thoroughly; you want it nice and tightly formed together. Don't make it too thick or thin. Using a cutting board slide the parchment paper onto your hot pizza stone or baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 8 - 11 minutes, until it starts to turn golden brown. Remove from oven. Add sauce, cheese & optional topping. Place pizza back in the oven & cook for another 5 to 7 minutes until the cheese is melted & slightly golden. Allow it to cool for a few minutes.
