Kids are just like adults......some are going to be a bit messier and unorganized than others.  However, all kids can be taught basic organizing skills through consistency and positive encouragement from you, their teacher.

Here are 5 ways to help your kids be more organized.

1.  Make sure you have a home for everything and they know where that home is.  Kids can't put things away if you don't have a designated spot for it to go.

2.  Schedule time to get and keep things organized.  If kids are always rushing out the door to the next activity, there is not any time for them to get or keep their things organized.  We all need to schedule time for organizing and for down time!

3.  Consistency and encouragement will help those less than organized kids learn to take the next step and put their things away.  You cannot expect kids to learn and do it perfectly right away.  An old boss of mine used to say - "inspect what you expect".  If you are not letting them know what the realistic expectations are and following through with either praise or encouragement, you will not get the results you want.

4.   Make it fun.  Set a timer to get things picked up.  Put some jazzy music on while getting organized.  Let them come up with some ideas about how to be better organized.  Give them ownership....don't do it for them!

5.  Finally, be a good example of organization.  Yep, this is the hardest part.  Walk the walk don't  just talk the talk.  Show them the beauty of a simpler, more orderly and less cluttered life.

Everyone works, feels and lives better in a less cluttered environment.  What a gift you will be giving your children when you teach them to live with less and to organize the rest.

Do you want your kids to be more organized?
Quit buying them so much stuff!
Fill their lives with experiences......that is their foundation.

Please let me know if you need help with any of your de-clutter tasks or if you are ready for life coaching.   It is what I love to do!

Happy De-Cluttering!
