Leon Valley Public Library Event

Smoke Detectors to Canterfield Subdivision
Exciting news! For the next two Saturdays from 9AM-1PM (September 12th and 19th), Leon Valley Firefighters and the American Red Cross will be walking door to door in the Canterfield subdivision installing FREE smoke detectors. These smoke detectors come equipped with the 10-year lithium sealed batteries! The smoke detectors are furnished by USAA Insurance, and will be installed by the American Red Cross and your Leon Valley Firefighters. Again, this is a free program that is being offered to improve life safety in our community. All of the homes in Leon Valley need working smoke detectors. Smoke detectors need to be replaced every 10 years. Smoke detectors save lives. Please help us spread the word to all neighbors in Canterfield. See the map below; we will be visiting the area in blue this Saturday, and the area in green on September 19th.

New Pedestrian Crossing
The planned new pedestrian crossing on Evers Road, in front of the library, is scheduled to start construction on Monday, September 21, 2015. The work is expected to take ten days for completion, with half of Evers Road being closed at a time. The crossing is to be moved slightly closer towards the creek to avoid having people walk in the bus pads. We know this will be inconvenient for travelers on Evers Road, but the end result will be a beautiful brick designed ADA compliant crossing, with ample lit signage and in-roadway bollards to alert traffic of possible pedestrians. The curb ramp construction along Evers Road is underway, but will be stopped to complete this part of the project. Once the crossing is complete, the curb ramp construction will be continued. We apologize in advance for the interruption in travel!
Fresh Veggies Anyone?

The harvesting is underway and the fruits of the hard labor are evident! Good job Community Gardeners! We did have one gardener give up a plot and we don't have anyone on the waiting list, so if you are interested in organic gardening, please give us a call at 681-1232 and ask for Yvonne Acuna.
