And

Tuesday, September 15, 2015 - 7:00 p.m.

Leon Valley Conference Center

This budget will raise more total property taxes than last year's budget by $366,325 or 11.2041% and of that amount $15,699 is tax revenue to be raised from new property added to the roll this year.

Hazardous Materials Disposal
We receive numerous calls at Public Works about what to do with household hazardous waste, such as old paint and paint thinner, and empty fertilizer, pesticide, and chemical containers. There used to be a pickup once or twice a year for these items, but that was discontinued. We called Waste Management and asked what residents of Leon Valley could do with their stuff, and we have been told that Bexar County will accept household hazardous waste from Leon Valley residents! The program, called "At Your Door", can be used once a year by Leon Valley residents. Please visit their at http://www.bexar.org/533/Household-Hazardous-Waste-Pickup-Program or http://wmatyourdoor.com/, or call them at 1-800-449-7587 for information on how to schedule a pickup "At Your Door".
Stage 1 Drought Restrictions

The once generous level of the J-17 well has dropped. The 10-day average has dropped to 659.5 ft. Interim City Manager Henry Brummett has declared that Stage 1 Water Restrictions will be in effect as of July 31st. Per City ordinance, the following rules apply:

  • Landscape watering with an irrigation system or sprinkler is permitted one day per week before 10:00 a.m. or after 8:00 p.m. in accordance with the last digit of the property address as follows:

Last Digit of Address

Day of Week

0-1

Monday

2-3

Tuesday

4-5

Wednesday

6-7

Thursday

8-9

Friday

  • All businesses and apartment complexes will use Wednesday as their watering day. No person may use groundwater for an ornamental outdoor fountain or similar feature unless a variance has been obtained for 100 percent (100%) nonpotable water use. Operators of athletic fields must submit a conservation plan to the city. Athletic fields may not irrigate between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
  • Residential washing of vehicles or other equipment is allowed only on assigned watering days and times. A hose with an automatic shut off nozzle or bucket of five gallons or less may be used. Water should not be allowed to run into the street.
  • Washing of impervious cover such as parking lots, driveways, streets or sidewalks is prohibited.
  • Hand watering with a handheld hose, soaker hose, drip irrigation, bucket or watering can is permitted any time and any day.
  • All nonpublic swimming pools must have a minimum of 25 percent of the surface area covered with evaporation screens when not in use. Inflatable pool toys or floating decorations may be used for this purpose.
  • The use of commercial car wash facilities is allowed any day.
  • Watering days begin and end at midnight; overnight watering is not allowed.
  • Water waste, such as water running down the street, is prohibited year-round; however, watering with a handheld hose is still allowed any day, any time.
"Specialized Traffic Enforcement" Slow your roll!
In an effort to enhance the public safety within Leon Valley, the Leon Valley Police Department is implementing  a program, starting 7/30/15, of specialized traffic enforcement. The extra enforcement will be in traffic areas of concern, or "Hot Spots" in which zero tolerance traffic enforcement will be conducted.  Officers will be assigned at various hours and will be issuing citations for violations.   These officers will be driving marked police vehicles and will be in uniform.

Graffiti Is Not Art

The City of Leon Valley is experiencing an increase of vandalism graffiti. This is a crime punishable by a fine of up to $500.00. The removal of graffiti cost the tax paying citizens of Leon Valley money that could be used elsewhere. We are reaching out to the community to help out. Leon Valley appears to be the target of two very active taggers who call themselves "AMIER" and "GIZMO". If you see or even think you see someone committing this crime please don't hesitate to call the Leon Valley Police at 210-684-3215.
