USAA Insurance Policy Holders in Leon Valley to Receive Discount

USAA insurance has announced today that it will now provide a discount to homeowners who live in a recognized Firewise Community in Texas. Firewise Communities is a designation awarded by the National Fire Protection Association to cities who have met best practice benchmarks in management that works to lessen the impact of wildfires in communities. The City of Leon Valley continues to be the only Firewise Community recognized in Bexar County.

"Leon Valley earned our Firewise designation even before the discount was provided simply by providing quality service to our citizens. Fire prevention has always been a priority in Leon Valley, and it's great to see this rewarded to our citizens", said Fire Chief Valdez.

The new discounts will be accounted for during each policy-holder's renewal starting today, and the amount will vary depending on the value and type of policy. For more information visit www.Firewise.org, ask your USAA Insurance Agent, or contact the Leon Valley Fire Department at 210-684-3219.

Coffee with the Mayor and City Council

The next Coffee will be Saturday, July 25th from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at the Leon Valley Conference Center, 6421 Evers Road. CPS Energy Vice President Raiford Smith has been invited to communicate two new solar initiatives to be piloted later this summer/fall. The goal of these pilot programs is to make solar power available to a wider range of CPS Energy customers than the current program allows. For more information on these pilot programs you can read the following article from the San Antonio Express Newspaper.

LV Record Breaking 4th Celebration
The 2015 Leon Valley 4th of July Celebration Event will go down in the record books, with an estimated 15,000 in attendance for the Fireworks Grand Finale.

The day long events raced out of the gates with 67 participants in the Firecracker 5K. Followed shortly by the 4th of July Parade down Huebner to Evers and concluded on Poss Rd.

Throughout the afternoon the event hosted entertainers and performers from the greater San Antonio Area that played to the delight of the thousands in attendance during the day.

Graffiti Is Not Art

The City of Leon Valley is experiencing an increase of vandalism graffiti. This is a crime punishable by a fine of up to $500.00. The removal of graffiti cost the tax paying citizens of Leon Valley money that could be used elsewhere. We are reaching out to the community to help out. Leon Valley appears to be the target of two very active taggers who call themselves "AMIER" and "GIZMO". If you see or even think you see someone committing this crime please don't hesitate to call the Leon Valley Police at 210-684-3215.
