Greetings Neighbor!
MEDIA RELEASE May 23, 2014

On Tuesday, May 20th, Public Works was informed that of the 12 monthly samples taken, one raw, groundwater source (pre-treatment) sample taken from the Grass Hill Well tested positive for E. coli. All other samples, including the pre-treatment sample from our primary well site and the 10 distribution (post-treatment) samples from residences in Leon Valley, tested negative for any contaminants. A public notice using the mandatory language provided by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) was released to multiple media outlets. Though not required by the TCEQ, as an additional precautionary measure, the Public Works Department took the Grass Hill Well out of service. The well was disinfected per American Water Works Association standards and re-sampled on May 22nd. The re-sample was received today, and tested negative for E.coli. The well will be placed back into service. The City's source of water from the Edwards Aquifer is safe. The Public Works staff monitors the water system closely 365 days a year, and is confident in our ability to continue delivering safe, potable water to our citizens.
