September has come and gone in a flash! There is plenty going on in October, starting off with National Night Out on Tuesday, October 1st from 7-10 p.m.

We welcome your participation in this annual event that gives everyone a chance to meet their neighbors and promote a greater awareness of crime prevention activities in Leon Valley.

Leon Valley Library Reopened

September 21, 2013 - Soft Opening of the New Children's Wing

New Children's Wing Unveiled!

After many years of patient waiting, the dream has finally come true! The expansion added approximately 4000 square feet to the south side of the existing building, with a matching exterior finish, which increased the present square footage from 6000 to 10,000 square feet - the recommended size per capita.

Watch the video that captures the progress from the initial groundbreaking to final days before the soft-opening last Saturday. While work is ongoing to make final touches, to include new library furniture, the Library is now operating under regular hours. A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony is in the works and news on the date and time will be sent out in the coming weeks!

Fire Department Offers Fire Safety Tips
Cooking Safety Tip! The Fire Department wants to remind you to cook safe. They created a short video with some helpful advice as part of their Fire Safety Month activities beginning in October.

Upcoming Public Meetings

City Council meets monthly

For the next 6 months, on a trial basis, the City Council will move their meetings to the 2nd Monday of the month. This change was approved at the City Council Meeting on September 17th and will be revisited in 6 months. This change aligns with the City Council's Strategic Goals adopted this past July, and is intended to make our city government run more efficiently by utilizing staff and other resources more effectively.

The October City Council Meeting will be held, Monday, October 14, 2013.

Leon Valley Branding Committee

The next meeting of the Branding Committee will take place Monday, September 30 at 6:00 p.m. Agenda

What's on the Ballot?

Besides having the Constitutional Amendments to consider, there will be two ballot measures for registered voters living in the City of Leon Valley to consider. Information on each can be found by clicking on the links below:

The Reauthorization of the Street Maintenance Sales and Use Tax, with an expiration of 10 years
The Creation of a Crime Control and Prevention District, and the adoption of a local sales and use tax at a rate of one-eighth of one percent pursuant to Chapter 363 of the Texas Local Government Code.

Be sure to turn your porch lights on to support National Night Out, Tuesday, October 1st. Better yet, join your neighbors outdoors and get to know one another.
